Your blocks look great Jan, I too like the blue background. It sets the blocks off.

mirabelle 01-22-2011 02:20 PM

My vote is for the darker background, makes the block pop, the lighter background has them fading into it.

janRN 01-22-2011 03:01 PM

Thank you all so much. I'm leaning towards a darker background, want to try burgandy or dark green. I like the light too. Decisions! Weezie what color did you decide on?

I was so mad at Patches-I'd get the blocks all laid out neatly and he'd go lay on them!! But a quilt isn't complete without a little dog hair-adds texture.

I started to describe it in words; then decided to take & send a photo. Although the colors are off, photo still gives you more than a verbal description would. The choc. brown I've had for a long time, before I ever heard of the FWS; it will be sashing & borders. When I started the FWS, I took a piece of it to Joann's and got the other 2 fabrics. They are "Tan Scroll" & "Peach Scroll". The lighter one is quite tan, but the photo doesn't show that. I have 1-1/2 yds. of it and much more than that of the peach scroll. One of them will be cornerstones; the other triangles; I just haven't decided which yet. Both scrolls go well with the brown and its peach-y flowers.

mirabelle 01-22-2011 05:34 PM

Weezie I loooovvvvee your fabrics

Quilting Nonnie 01-22-2011 05:49 PM

Weezie

Those fabrics are beautiful; they will make your quilt look so good!

janRN 01-22-2011 06:47 PM

Ooohh-I like those fabrics. Really like the choc brown and those other 2 look great. Those will really work well.

Blue Bell 01-22-2011 07:20 PM

Wow! Everyone's blocks are gorgeous.

weezie 01-22-2011 07:38 PM

Thanks, all! I was tickled pink to find the peach & tan scroll fabrics to match the brown, + it's all of good quality. Not only that, with coupons & end-of-bolt discounts, I saved about $20.00 that day.

Savings like that always make the fabric seem even prettier. :0) Your selections are so nice and will complement your blocks beautifully.

Weezie, Beautiful Fabrics!

I just could not get these in one photo! :D
the sashing I picked is a brown orange, I bought enough to use it as the triangles also. Im thinking scrappy cornerstones?... still shopping for some backing, creamy yellow perhaps?

Quilting Nonnie 01-23-2011 03:58 PM

D-D Your blocks look lovely altogether! And the sashing is very cool. I would never have thought of an orangey color. Your quilt is going to be terrific!

janRN 01-23-2011 06:19 PM

DD I love your blocks! They look great all together-you have a really nice balance of color. I like the orangey color--I'm with QN: would have never thought of that color but wow! It looks great.

I'm laughing at your unattached handles!!

deranged_damsel 01-23-2011 06:41 PM

yes, I was wanting something brownish... but that sounded to BROWN. I think the orange pulls it together the way the brown would have, but turns it very WARM :D

thank you! and those handles will be the last thing to go on! I would wait utill after the binding is on if I could! HAHA!

JeanieG 01-23-2011 06:41 PM

Jan, I really like the darker color for your sashing.

Everyone, all your 50's look fabulous! Will get my 49 & 50 done this week, then will post my 50!

mirabelle 01-24-2011 12:30 AM

Beautiful blocks, love your colours

sew cornie 01-24-2011 10:43 AM

deranged, your blocks and sashing fabric are beautiful! The sashing color is grounding but has great life to it. I never would have thought of scrappy cornerstones, but what a perfect idea. Can't wait to see it!

I love your blocks. You really have nice contrast in them-that's something I really need to work at. Great job!

Oh, yummy -- everyone's blocks look really good. I think maybe after this one's done (actually two twins), I'll have to try scrappy because all of yours look fabulous. Maybe with Laurie's new quilt coming out this spring. Anyway, here's my first 50 not in any particular order.

Evie, everyone's blocks, whether scrappy or color controlled are beautiful, but I must be truthful and tell you I'm very partial to your black, white and red colors. Each block seems to shine and provide interest for the eye. I've 32 blocks finished and six cut out and ready to sew. I'm closing in on my 50 using only my scrap stash. One neat thing about taking a photo every once and awhile is that you see where you've used too much of a color or too little of a color.

Are you making more than 50? I might stop at 50 for a lap quilt - or - continue and make two lap quilts. I just finished making a queen sized quilt for my DD and am in the middle of a queen sized Nutcracker quilt for my DGD, so a lap will be very welcome. Continue the good work! Belles

Quilting Nonnie 01-25-2011 08:11 PM

Oh Evie! Wowzer! You have converted me to black, red & white. I've never liked that combo before. I'm a believer!

Kookabell (sp?) Your blocks are looking great! Don't worry about not being caught up. I'm behind. Wish I could be current, but just don't have enough time. But I'm enjoying the ride--I'm loving this so much I'm thinking of doing the Pony Quilt too!

mirabelle 01-25-2011 11:51 PM

Wow Evie they are gorgeous, love the colour combo.

mirabelle 01-25-2011 11:52 PM

Kookie don't worry you will catch up, your blocks look great, love them

JAGSD 01-26-2011 06:16 AM

Evie, I agree WoWser!! Your Red, White, and Black blocks are amazing!

What a wonderful idea, doing Laurie next, in another color scheme. Except when I like so many of them how would I ever pick which one?((giggle))((giggle))

Kooklabell 01-26-2011 03:57 PM

What wonderful blocks we all have. I can't wait until we see them all put together. Why do I have go back to work?!! It just so interferes with my quilting :(

KarenR 01-26-2011 04:08 PM

First, you have to buy, beg, borrow, or steal the book, "The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt" by Laurie Aaron Hird. It comes with a CD that has all the templates; these you can print once you pop the CD into your computer. In theory, we make 2 blocks per week in the same chronological order as they are in the book. In truth, we each progress at our own pace. Honchey is our "main gal" who starts 3 posts each week (Tues. p.m.): 1. Discussion; 2. Photo; and 3. Rotary Cutting Instructions.

I'm in for the next quilt! It's going to be hard after seeing some of the color/fabric combos. Will I do red, white & black? Or how about only purple? Maybe green and ??? Thank goodness I have a while before I have to pin myself down.

janRN 01-27-2011 05:46 AM

Evie I've enjoyed looking at your red, black, white blocks and have loved them individually. I kept thinking "how's she going to pull this off? That's not enough color." Wow was I ever wrong---love your blocks and they look even better all together. Great job; I've learned so much here.

JeanieG 01-27-2011 03:42 PM

Thank you everyone for the kind comments. It is really coming together nicely. Gotta start working on the sashing.

sew cornie 01-27-2011 10:08 PM

Evie, I've admired your blocks as each week progresses. Seeing them all together - STUNNING! What will you use for sashing?

Jeanie, I've also loved seeing your blocks too, especially as I'm using Christmas fabrics as well (in a lighter colorway). Your collection is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
