Honchey, I've actually just followed a couple of tutorials I found.

This one is a slide show on webshots, with captions. It tells how to do QAYG without having to do sashings and hand sewing.

There is a step-by-step video series on YouTube. The link starts at Step 5. The previous 4 steps are making the block and squaring it up. There are 8 steps in the whole tutorial, but you only need 5-8. The woman who is doing the tutorial is Quilty Tina. If you look above the video, her name is posted and then a drop down box for "My Videos." You can use that drop down box to look for each step.

The third tutorial is QAYG with sashing that you have to hand-sew on the back. It is in a blog. Good clear pictures.

I ended up taking notes on the first two and saving them on my computer. The third one, I just copied and pasted the entire tutorial into Word, then saved it.

I plan on sewing about 4 FW blocks together with their sashing. Then I will sandwich those and hand quilt on my lap quilting hoop. Once I get all the sets done, I will join them together like is shown in the third tutorial, with hand stitching on the back.

I figure this way, I won't have a huge queen-size quilt in a lap hoop. I'm doing a full size right now and that is a lot of quilt to flop around in a circle!

Let me know if you need more help!

I'm planning to QAYG, too. At the same time, I'm wondering why it isn't QYG? We didn't used to do the 'as.' I'm blaming the internet for it! I keep seeing people using O for 'of' and T for 'the' in abbreviations as well. Sigh. :0D

Thinking about waiting until I'm all, or mostly, done with the blocks since color layout will be difficult on my scrappy blanket.

Yay, Pookie! I'm glad that you're going to be doing QYG ;-) too! We can commiserate or congratulate together. It will be awhile for me, because I'm finishing up a full size right now. I have a queen size that just needs plain squares quilted ("just" who do I think I'm kidding) By then I hope my hand quilting will have gotten better!

What an awe inspiring thread! Everyone's blocks are just lovely!
JAGSD I make miniatures, and your PP blocks are fantastic. It may be the reason I will again attempt PP--just to do these in either 3 or 4" blocks. Oh and for the 30's sashing--how about a soft green?

oksewglad,
Thanks a lot! Thank you for your suggestion,. They sure are fun to do, and to me the PP makes them quite manageable. I believe I have a green so will be taking my "50 done" picture soon will lay them out on different colors and will definetly try the soft green. If you have any problems PP let us know, either I or there are a few other PP'ing these too.

PJL--
Oh poor you! I feel sorry for you being in remodeling mode so long. Shhh! I have one of those husbands too, except he doesn't even start!

Here are my first 25. I did some out of order and others didn't make the cut. I think I like it, but not enough do do all 100 blocks. I guess I'll decide as it gets bigger. I need suggestions on the sashing, because I want to start adding it before I finish because that is my least favorite part.

you should be proud  I think they look !!!GREAT!!!

sashing... if you like contrast you could go green or yellow, if you are looking for a complimentary color I would go dark purple or dark blue, even black would look good with this I think.

have fun! ;-)
