Wow rwquilts those blocks are spectacular! My 59 turned out so bad! Big bulge in the middle. I did wet it down like Anne suggested and it does look a little better. Don't know why it did that - everyone's here lie nice and flat!

JeanieG, I am paper piecing most of my blocks--that keeps the fabric from stretching/shifting when sewing. It also helps in sewing straight lines and keeping the intersections where they belong. I cannot sew a straight line without the help of a guide on the presser foot and even then it tapers off because I can't keep my fat fingers out of the way :-P . I utilize all the help that's out there, ie: starch/pressing/pinning. Anne

Thanks Anne - Do you make your own paper piecing patterns for the blocks, or are there some already made?

rwquilts 02-28-2011 03:06 PM

Thank you Anne and Jeanie for the compliments! Jeanie, I also am paper piecing mine and it really does help give a more precise block...I love my starch also! LOL!

I've been designing mine in EQ, but there's also an offical group that's got the patterns, but I don't know if it's okay to talk about it here...Anne will let cha know!

First off, rwquilts fantastic blocks! Very well done and I love the fabrics you chose!

The paper piecing patterns are available from the Yahoo Farmer's Wife group. Laurie H. has told us it's okay to use them. You have to join their group. After that it is a courtesy to drop in and look at their blocks and make comments. It would be nice also to share your blocks with them.

RW quilts - You have done it again, perfect blocks. You really do a fantastic job making all of these blocks. How long have you been quilting?

You are very kind...thank you. I've been at this for over 30 years, but in the early days I didn't do that much with it, but the desires have always been in the genes...a kickback from my grandma, as my mom had little interest.

Nonnie, thank you! I wasn't sure about sharing about that regards the official group! You handled it beautifully!

I am also using the pp patterns from the yahoo group. They have saved me.

As always, some great work there ladies. I always love to see QNinaSue's interpretative blocks! And oh my, those fussy cut bees in Jeanie's. And oh so many others that I an drooling over!! :)

#59 ... Day and Night ... sunny days and dark starry nights!
and
#60 ... finished off my Christmas last night, by making this block. Thus the fabric choices! :) They were used in the tabletopper that I gave away at my "adopted" family's Christmas!!

#61 thru 64 were posted awhile back. So next up is #65.

Beautiful blocks! I love the colors on the night & day. Your "Christmas" block is beautiful.

I'm going to visit my daughter for three days, so no making blocks. Once I get back though, watch out!

Enjoy your sewing. I can't wait to see your next blocks!

JeanieG 12-26-2011 11:57 PM

Oh pretty table runner Quilt#!

QuiltE 12-27-2011 05:18 AM

QNonnie ... Enjoy your time away! I'll be looking forward to seeing your blocks then too!!! :)

JeanieG ... nope this is not becoming a table runner ..... I'm just starting to audition the squares and setting triangles!

Both of these blocks, look so much prettier when not on point! :(

Very pretty QE. I know I've told you before, but I love the dark green you're going to use and that gold looks like it would make nice cornerstones.
I ended up not setting my blocks on point because I had stared at them so long on my flannel wall in a linear style that I liked them better. Just a personal quirk I guess.
Keep at it--you're inspiring me for PC with your color choices.

Thanks JanRN for all you kind words. I decided if I was going to on-point them, I'd better start looking at them as such! Though I have my disappointments when I see some of the blocks like these two that truly are much nicer when not on-point! You did such a great job of your FWS, I'm not sure you need PC inspiration!

The cornerstones & setting triangles ... I could do both in the same as the triangles are now. Just not sure if the variation of the fabric would be risky in the tiny cornerstones or not. And now for the real dilemma ... the fabric is on sale today at 30% off and I'm contemplating buying it for the backing. Even on sale, it's still going to be a mighty hefty bill with the yardage we need. Though I really like it and know I would not regret it. Maybe the store will solve the problem, and not have enough in stock!

I don't know how to stop being redundant, but the piecing in these beauties is stupendous! I feel like a slacker when you see my blocks IRL. I love seeing all the color combinations. Ah another Christmas block QE?

tsk tsk
OKSGlad ... Oh now don't short change yourself. Your blocks have been first class. Absolutely!

I did a few blocks at Christmas time with Christmas fabric, just for the significance. Christmas always has been a "big" time on most farms ... the fun and enjoyment, the food and celebration and a LOT of work for Farm Wives. Of course, you know more than enough about THAT!! :)

That Noon and Night one was done with the fabrics I used for the Christmas Table Topper I gave away.
