Hi Girls, As usual I'm in a warp mode and only got as far as my fabric selection for these blocks. I know #59 is going to drive me crazy---I get dizzy just looking at the picture in the book!!!

Blocks 59 & 60. Day and night was between a rock and a hard place...so its a stream, rocks and mountains. 59 is slilghtly different from original block.

QNS I love both of your blocks but really like your interpretation of 59. Usually only see it in black/white or 2 color combos. You are so good at picking out colors (which is the hardest thing for me). Also love your "stories".

Your blocks are so unique--now you have to write or sew a book telling your stories of each block and keep it with the finished quilt. Anne

I am home just for tonight; then it's back to the Cardiovascular ICU waiting room tomorrow. While I'm here, am sending picture of my blocks 59 & 60. Next week, along with 61 & 62 pictures, will give quick re-cap of this horrid week.

Ditto for the WOW !!! These are great blocks ! ALL of them. Granny Q, Your blocks still amaze me. Your # 60 reminds me of a "crown" or "Bridal headpiece" very pretty.

Well I cannot seem to get Block 59 to lay flat, but here they are!

Honchey 02-23-2011 08:30 PM

I'm trying to think of a way to shrink the middle a bit. get a piece of corrurgated? cardboard.stick pins in the block around the edges first and then on the major seams from the outside towards the middle--until uou get to where it won't lay flat--then spray or dab it with water in the area where it won't lay
flat and let it air dry. See if that helps. I know that when I spray fabric with the steam iron it goes back to it's original size. this may help to flatten it. Anne

Did not enjoy #59, as much as I tried and resewed three times I could not get the centre to line up. Oh well the quilt police can nab me

Oh thank you Anne, I'll try that. I tried ironing the seams open, as was recommended, but I don't think that helped. May have to do that one over - ugh!!!

What is it with scanners lately??? I did somthing wrong a couple of weeks ago by clicking on the wrong box and my whole printer/scanner/fax went crazy--wouldn't let me shut down--had to take the battery out--now it wants the software CD that I can't find--had to get my other printer out of mothballs. I almost gave it away!!! still hunting for the CD :-( :-(

I don't know, but it's crazy! DH found the CD, first uninstalled the program, then reinstalled the program and it still won't read it...has been on the phone with HP, but still needs something! Aarrrggghhh!

Good luck with your search...wishing you good vibes... :D

Beautiful! Beautiful! blocks you gals have wonderful eye candy going on!

I have gotten my 4" ones done for this week and have one more and then will have them caught up. Can't say that for the 3" ones but will get going on them soon. #60's colors blend too much so may end of redoing it later on.

I'm looking forward to Laurie Hird's next book, "The Farmer's Wife Pony Club," due out later this year, probably just as we're finishing up this quilt. How's that for timing!

violetsfarm 02-26-2011 05:42 AM

Aunt Jo - Really nice contrast on your fabric choices.

violetsfarm 02-26-2011 05:44 AM

Mirabelle- I think you did a great job. Block 59 was difficult but not as bad as #57 Morning. It turned out too small.

Very pretty Anne-love that dark blue. I liked this block but thought it was hard. Everyone here has nailed it--let's pat ourselves on the back!!

Quilting Nonnie 02-26-2011 03:21 PM

I've been quiet the last few weeks...not able to comment like I usually do. Some pretty crummy family stuff going on. The blocks this week are so pretty. I love the night and day, I did it in 12" for a block swap. It will be interesting to try it in 6"! I think I finally got fabrics picked out.

Someone mentioned the Pony quilt. I'm really excited to do that too. I think I'll have to give myself a break between the two. I don't have a large amount of time to quilt, and keeping up here is a challenge (that I love). I love everything about this quilt, the blocks, working with color but most especially all the great people here in the group.

If all of you went straight on to the Pony quilt I'd have a hard time not going right with you. You're like good friends that I want to stick around with.

I agree about not jumping straight into another quilt, but this has been a wonderful group to sew with. I am busy trying to get some UFO's finished while keeping up with this one. I have been looking at the Bridal Sampler, gave the book to my daughter who was interested but now she has decided to go to university while still working full time so she won't have too much spare time to sew. Hope the crummy stuff sort itself out for you

Evie,

I love BOTH of your blocks. I think you need to get further back to admire #59. I think you'll see how good it looks!

I love the red and black in #60.

Well, Quilting Nonnie, Here it is, I managed to get it done and watch the Awards at the same time... I found #60 considerably easier than # 59--I rather enjoyed doing it. I'm on a roll--between yesterday and today I did 4 blocks--I haven't done that many since we started this last August. Now to pick up all the scraps and threads. Anne
