grannyQ, I hope I am not stepping on your toes here... computer seems to be going and coming on the QB today, so thought I would try putting my blocks up...loved the seasons block, and hated the shooting star block. Eash carrys its own story without adding words.

Deranged, great blocks!
Okay, I'm done, but I have to say...for those of you who are paper piecing...be aware that the way block #78 is grouped, you'll have two seams that have to be sewn in part and then lined up again to finish...I wasn't a fan of this way of grouping, but I'm not re-doing my block. |
Your blocks are all so gorgeous. I can't believe the shooting star blocks-wow. I'll post mine tonite and I guarantee my shooting star block will knock your socks off!! (just a little tease..)
|
Your blocks are beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing.

Blocks 77 & 78 & 78a (disclaimer: viewing could be harmful to your eyeballs!) I could not get 78--tried at least 9 times with different fabrics so I shoved it in a baggie and made 78a for Patches (my avatar-he came with that appropriate name!) He spends most days with me in the sewing room and even donated a corner of his bandana to his block; I named it Dog's Paw block. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!)

Wow - it's Wednesday already, here's mine. I'm going to have to get busy on the next set. Hope the rest of this school years goes this fast. We're at 22 days & counting. :)

I am enjoying seeing all the lovely blocks each week, but don't always say so (some weeks I even like my own). I also enjoy reading the comments. JanRN, love your color choices for 78, but it is certainly a block that allows no margin for error. There are quite a few of those in this sampler, altho' some of the awkward ones come together fairly easy for me and some of the "easy" ones give me fits. Love your 78a, though!

Jan, i love your dog's paw block. Really cute.
|
Jan and Aunt Jo, your blocks are so pretty!

Here are my Block 77 & 78. I paper pieced 78, but it still doesn't look that great! (Maybe it is my paper piecing - new at it.)

I love them Jeanie. Of course tourquoise is my favorite color. Love the butterfly. I can't believe I'm the only one who couldn't do #78. Oh well.....

Violet, your block is so pretty!
Jeanie, I love the colors you chose for your blocks! Block 79 wasn't really easy for me either...they look good! |

Well, I took a picture of Block 78 rather than scan, since my computer and scanner aren't working. This was not a good block for me. I lost the original scan, so this one has already been quilted chalk marks not washed out yet.

Very nice Violet-love the colors. I'm glad you left the chalk lines on--it helps me to see the quilting. I'm slowly quilting some of mine so seeing yours gives me ideas on how to quilt them. Thanks!

I forgot to post the one block I did manage to get done for this week. All of you are doing such a great job with the colors and getting them done on time. I compliment all of you   :P

And here are my blocks. Sawtooth was so nice and easy; and I love how it turned out.
Then there was Shooting Star. I do paper piecing. I don't know whether it made this block easier or harder. I saw JanRN's attempt! Poor Jan. I was so ready to throw the thing in the trash. Shooting is an apt name--I was either me or the block. Arghhh! Then all of a sudden I got mad! I wasn't going to let this thing win!! So here it is. It has several pieces of tape on it (from sewing the same seam over and over). It has glue in it. I needed to hold a piece of fabric in place while I pinned another piece to it. I hammered it, which made my husband come running. I told him it was a time-honored quilting technique. I ironed the seams open then pounded on the lump with my hammer. And it worked too! I even hand stitched part of it, until I realized that the technique I had used allowed me to machine sew it in the end. The day started with a migraine. I stayed in bed until noon, trying to sleep it off (with the help of my good migraine drugs). I finally got up and after an hour, I started quilting at one p.m. with the migraine only at low roar. The migraine went away around 4 p.m. I finished at 7 p.m. Except for half an hour to run to the pharmacy and half an hour to feed when my blood sugar dropped, I got it all finished in one day. Ta da! You'd think the silly thing would have given me a migraine...was definitely a backwards process. I admire all of you who accomplished #78...I'm sure we all have battle scars. I will Never Ever make that block again. Can you imagine making a whole quilt? |
QNonnie ... Looks you "nailed" it in the end! Good idea on the hammer technique.
I haven't tackled this block yet, though I will admit that the awkward ones I have been PPing and it seems to have let them come out easier in the end. We'll see when I get there. To the Early Birds .... Great work! Some lovelies there indeed. JanRN ... good job on including Patches in the quilt, and for sharing his/her bandana corner for her/his block! |

Alas! here's my
#77 ... Seasons ... isn't it nice when we get a simple one to do, amidst the troublesome blocks? :) and #78 ... Shooting Star ... Congratulations! to those who did this non-PP. I can't even imagine your doing it without. Well done Ladies! 84/111 JanRN ... I still smile every time I see your Patches, and have joyful memories of my Zammy! |
QuiltE, Another two gorgeous blocks! You're getting along quickly. I'm so glad we're doing this at the same time. I loved the camaraderie when I was doing the blocks with the group. Now I feel good that we are keeping each other company. Although I have less left to make, looks like you and I will probably finish close together.
|
Well here's the slow one ready to make comments!
QNSue--your fussy cuts are fantastic RWQ, Mbelle and QE-your piecing is perfection JeanieG--love the FC butterfly QNonnie-love your comments about the bugaboo shooting star. I can't wait to sew it (sic) Everyone your fabric selections are great. Going to take picks of the ones I have finished and hopefully post tonight yet. |
oksewglad, can't wait to see your blocks! I'm glad there's another person who's doing blocks right now. It helps to compare notes in real time!

My Winter Break is waning fast! I still have one more week until school starts, but I am going to be gone to see my daughter for three days. I had 3 people today ask if we could quilt together. I love quilting with other people, it's so much fun. I just tend to get less done. I also don't usually work on FW when I'm quilting at someone else's house. It's so intensive and making sure you bring everything you need is difficult. I went to visit a friend and quilt a couple of days ago. I brought my stuff to do FW. I forgot the paper piecing patterns. I forgot my piece size chart. I did manage to get one block done and measure pieces for another block. I guess it's just my fuzzy memory. At least this time I didn't forget the power cord for my sewing machine!
|
Oh dear that you forgot your power cord. ITA, I'm not sure I'd want to do FWS when others were around. Even with PPing, I'd probably get my mind side tracked and end up with blue where orange should be, etc. Did that tonight, for #79, even on my own!! Was doing the sewing together of the sections and noticed it. arrggghhhhh!!!!!! Was tempted to quit for the night, but trundled on and got the wrong corrected, and the block finished. Tmro .. #80!
Kids go back to school here next Monday 1/9 too, so enjoy your time off while you can this week, whether it be FWS'ing or visiting with others and no quilting! Need to get your batteries recharged for the semester ahead! |
I did the same thing. Yesterday I was doing #88, an easy block. When all was sewn and ready to be put together, I noticed I had translated the wrong colors to the wrong places. Arggghhh! I was going to try and correct it, but decided during the night to just re-do it. Thank goodness it is an easy block. And I was all alone too
|
It's annoying, as it slows our productivity down!! :) I'll look forward to seeing it today.
|
Amen to that!
