How did I forget to post my final block :oops: As there was a similar block already in this quilt I went with a totally different block for my last one (hope that's ok) This is one of my favourite blocks 54-40 or Flight
Congratulations JeanieG on your grandson, there is nothing more precious in this world as a new baby. Also a huge round of applause to Anne (Honchey) for all the work she has done every week on this long but enjoyable journey. Kept us all going.. I also want to thank everyone who has posted pics of blocks and comments over the past year. This was my first time participating in a sew along and I have enjoyed every moment of it. oooh pretty block, Karen!! I like that particular block too but I really like the colors you used (usually see it in red, white, blue). I'm making a note of your colors for possible use in Pony quilt. Hasn't this been fun?

Wonderful blocks everyone. I should be home from stifling Phoenix (115* +-) to cool Southern California (75* - 85*) by Friday. Will post all my blocks a few days after.
Anxious to start laying out the second half of my blocks into a quilt. My first half quilt is all quilted except for the border, did that before I left. Need to figure out what quilt design to use on the border. Was thinking of a double ribbon type design. Does anyone know a good site that has free quilting designs??? Baby was very jaundiced at birth and had to stay another day under the sun lamps. The pediatrician said he was beautiful, and his color is normal now. He want to nurse all the time, poor mommy. |

Yay, Jeanie! Doesn't it feel great? I just looked at the recent blocks you posted--they're all so pretty and well done. I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to--I love them all. Can't wait to see them all put together (no pressure LOL).

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I'm arranging and re-arranging them on my display board trying to decide how I like them. Every time I walk in my sewing room, I take one or two and move them. Not satisfied yet! LOL

Since I seem to be alone while everyone else is quilting thier blocks ho hum.........will I ever get there? Hmmmm I decided to spice it up for myself & I am working both ends of the quilt gonna meet up in the middle with Block #56! I decided to do this for 2 reasons..........1. Need to thin my stash. So my #1 & #111 block will have the same fabrics, the same with #2 & #110 blocks & so on & so on till I reach the middle. Not to say that some of those fabrics wont be used in other blocks in the quilt I know I don't have enough reds/blacks/whites to make each block totally diff. That brings me to reason 2. I made a promise to myself not to buy any new fabric this year till I use up some of what I have. So now comes the great part and gives me a goal & a reason to look forward to getting to Block #56. I get to go FABRIC SHOPPING! That block will have all new 2012 FABRICS!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Yeah!!!!!!!!!! So with all that said here is my #111 Block!

Nice blocks! I'm really glad you are not reluctant to start the FWS now that some of us have done all 111 blocks. We'll be enjoying your progress! I had planned to use just from my existing stash, also, but ended up buying more fabric a couple of times. Mine is totally scrappy, though, so not a lot of repeats.

Morningcoffeegal it's great to see another quilter doing the red/black/white (although mine is actually cream) colorway. There were times I got kinda bored with the combo, but I persevered. The hardest part was getting a sashing color to do the blocks justice! :lol: Looking forward to seeing your blocks and the eye candy they'll provide.

I like your idea Morningcoffee girl! And the incentive. I'm still working on my blocks so you're not alone. I have done 1-46, some of the 60's and 80's when I was just making blocks to be doing it with the group.
I'd like to get at least 1 block a week done, so this won't carry out for another year. So I guess we'll be seeing each other's blocks in the coming months. I know there are more out there still working. I even saw one person who just started at block one! |

Ta Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
Finished! Fini!! Finito!!! #111 -- Wrench ... For the Churn Dash I put a fussy cut kitten in the centre, and in the end it really didn't look like a Churn Dash, so this one I kept simple and plain #112 -- Log Cabin ... I was surprised there was not a log cabin block and wanted to include one [ATTACH=CONFIG]307416[/ATTACH] #113 -- 4-H Block ... In an earlier thread there was discussion about how 4-H was the base where many of us got our sewing basics. Also, in 2013 we will be celebratintg 100 years of 4-H in Canada!! Events are already starting for the celebrations. #68 -- Postage Stamp ... this is the 4th Postage Stamp block I have made for the quilt. As you can see it's not totally done, as I can't finish it til I get my sashing/border/binding fabric. So, that means 4x36 = 144 different fabrics were used! [ATTACH=CONFIG]307417[/ATTACH] These 5 extras will let me have a little flexibility as to which blocks make it into the quilt. I'll move out the 5 that just don't look the best in the whole layout! And now Good Night! .................. but first a final Yahooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! (though there's still a lot of work to do for the sashing, etc!) |
Congratulations to everyone who have finished all their blocks, Kudos to those who have the tops all pieced, and extra congratulations to those who have them finished.
One of my favorite blocks is the Hole in the barn door; I just love it's simplicity, and when you put it on point it changes so much. Thanks for sharing your lovely blocks. QE you final blocks are spectacular; Hat's off to the 4-H block. The birthplace of the 4-H emblem is about 150 miles from here in Clarion, IA. 144 fabrics, amazing. Like you I'm surprised there is no Log Cabin. Great additions. |

OKSGlad ... I too am fond of the HITB, though had never heard it called that til you first mentioned it! The simplicity is great and you really can do something with it. Get your thinking cap on for me ... antique butter making display coming up and I'm thinking of a quilt to be in it for some colour. Would love to know more about the story behind the 4-H emblem. ITA about the on point change of look ... some of the earlier blocks, were better on point, and sadly some just lost their sparkle on point. I'd found a 4-H block on the web, but it was "meant" for square setting with an on point look. So I designed my own ... merely a 9 patch! GGal ... what creative writing there!!! I'm looking forward to the PC blocks for a change of pace. I'm going to go at it with a different fabric strategy. It'll be fun working with the ponies and their friends ... and looking for all the fussy cut possibilities! |

Many Thanks to you QNonnie, for helping me re-energize over Christmas. I was at a low in FWS enthusiasm then, and could have so easily set it all aside, and with your riding along with me for those few weeks, you helped me get back in the spirit. I know you will finish yours ... sometimes we just need a break for a bit. And I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt you are working on now. I'm somewhat glad (relieved?) to see the FWS blocks done. Now for the long process of sashing etc. which will be broken up with the PC blocks, and hopefully some other projects. I just hope my LQS has been able to get the fabric I need for the sashing/borders/binding and that I don't have to start off on a hunt for something else. First before anything else will be trimming and binding my Hospice Passage Quilt. |

All ... it's been so nice to be able to chat and share with those who have done this quilt. Only those that have "gone before" truly understand the work it takes. Or the excitement of working thru each block, and coming towards the end. I find the others just go, ho-hum ... as though it were a just a bunch of fabrics haphazardly thrown together. Thank goodness for "FWS Sisters"! I'm pleased ... and know I will be even more pleased as I see the blocks go together. |

Another clean fresh look. This is a favorite block of mine. Soon the beginning blocks and ending blocks will meet in the middle and you will be done!

True words of the passion quilter; "I have more than one project to finish"....what you do, Anael, you do very well. My second cousin's triplets just turned four this year: two girls and one boy, one month younger than grandson.

Oh QNSue, I hope I can say that too in a couple of years! The triplets are ok, my DDIL has to go to another hospital for a check up on Wednesday and on Friday to the local hospital. If they're premature she can't deliver them here so that's why she also has check ups in another hospital.

Twins or triplets usually come early; with twins occurring on Father's side of the family, they x-rayed me at seven months on our first child in Alaska...if it had been twins they were going to send me straight to the hospital 60 air miles away until I gave birth. It was a single large female, so they let me remain at the small Air Force Base until I went into natural childbirth...then they rushed me to the bigger hospital. She weighed nine pounds, 10 ounces, and 21 inches long, had dimples in her knees, she was so fat!!
I wish the best for your DDIL...and you need to share pictures back with all of us when they arrive. At least, through Carrie and maybe she will update all of us. |
Thanks QNS, I will share pictures but you'll have to wait a while LOL They're due end of April (full term) but expected to arrive beginning of March. We'll see and hope for the best.

Hello Anael ... I'll echo QNSue's "what you do, you do very well". Yes, indeedy-do! :) And like OKSGlad, Churn Dash is one of my favourites, though I know #111 was called Monkey Wrench. Oh what fun, to do the FWS blocks and meet in the middle. Keep posting, and we'll keep cheering you on.
I'm on the excitedly waiting list too. And whistling a happy tune for the beginning of March ... the 7th would be just dandy! Here's to good health for all, right thru to their safe arrival! :D |
QuiltE...can I deduce that your birthday is March 7? Wouldn't that be a trip to have triplets arrive on that day...no pun intended.
