I am posting a picture of my friendship star block for you all to see. Don’t pay too close attention to it, though, as I put it together backwards. Pay attention to your instructions. Let’s all get busy and make some beautiful stars. I am looking forward to see what you all come up with.

Love the colors!

irishrose 01-14-2011 08:10 PM

My first one is backwards, too. The daughter whose quilt it centers will never know. I like your fabrics.

Cyn 01-14-2011 08:20 PM

I like it! Great job!

Boopers 01-14-2011 08:53 PM

They are not backwards. I have seen them done in both directions. Design options!!!

Very pretty Judy, here's mine.
Did I mention I love stars??
Will definitely be making another color combination of this one.

carolaug 01-15-2011 03:02 AM

I like it backwards!!!

quiltinghere 01-15-2011 05:57 AM

If you didn't mention that it's 'backwards', I wouldn't have thought about it.

Do stars go 'backwards'? :)

Matilda 01-15-2011 06:14 AM

Very pretty Judy. Backwards works! I can't wait to get started. Thanks.

Love the bright yellow Lindyline. I'm also thinking about doing a set with a black background and bright stars. I just love stars.

Here is another one I have done. This is a variation (just added half-square triangles at the corners) but it makes it look totally different. You can also do a variation by adding a four patch at the corners. All kinds of things to do with this star.

Can't wait to see other pictures.

here's mine. I hope I can find enough nautical fabric to carry this theme through the whole quilt
David

davidwent 01-15-2011 07:50 AM

P.S. I'm looking around the house for something to keep the blocks and instruction in...any suggestions?
Thank you!
David

Here is my first Friendship Star. I will make another for the BOM. One can't have too many friends.

I came up one short in a birthday quilt. This was my 'fix.'

Oh they are all looking so pretty!! Here is my block. I wanted to do black and a silvery but had not silver in my stash. I like it though. Very easy to do. (Secretly: I am glad it wasn't paper piecing! :) )

linmid 01-15-2011 08:59 AM

Very nice - I like your colors. Now to get started on mine.

JudyG 01-15-2011 09:46 AM

They are all soooooo pretty. David I love your nautical theme. If you have a pizza parlor close to you, they might sell you a pizza box for a small price (they're the perfect size to keep blocks in. I have plastic containers that I bought at Costco (I think it was a package of four) that I keep the fabric and completed blocks in for projects I am doing. You can also buy at the sporting goods store some square plastic containers that work well (this was a tip from my SIL - I actually spent a small fortune for the same thing at Joann's). It's really nice to have your fabric and completed blocks together when you're working on a project.

Great job all on the completed blocks. This was such an easy block it's going to seem like a long month til the next one is posted (that is unless you're doing the house BOM also - that will keep you busy in between stars).

Obsessed 01-15-2011 09:49 AM

I love all the stars! Great job everyone! It will be a couple of days before my fabric comes in and I can do mine, but I guess I have all month... ;-)

fairydawn 01-15-2011 10:24 AM

For future blocks you can use a clean pizza box. I use them to store blocks for WIP and keep my supplies for projects togather.

Decided to do two and then decide later which one will look best in quilt...Right now I'm liking the Spaceship block...

JudyG 01-15-2011 11:06 AM

Both those blocks are awesome hobbykat1955.

candi 01-15-2011 11:37 AM

Wow! You guys are so fast! Beautiful stars!

lreade 01-15-2011 11:38 AM

In my book no block is backwards. They are either left-handed or right-handed. Mine are always left-handed because that means the right side of my brain is always working. LOL

LOL I'm secretly disappointed that it wasn't paper piecing. :)

pdcakm 01-15-2011 12:43 PM

great blocks all of you over-achievers. it is only noon here in california and already you are done. they are all beautiful.

i will have to do a personal debate to decide if i will do this bom. i always love the idea of it, but when it is time to put all those blocks together i seem to get sidetracked. still have a couple of completed bom sets that need to be made into quilts. well, that is my personal problem, i think. you all are probably quilt finishers. love you all quilty pals.

couldn't access the link for some strange reason, but found the pattern on another site. Great choice! I think mine is going to be a throw pillow. If I can find the pillow form I have been saving forever..................

I included a sampling of the fabrics I'm going to use for this star quilt. They are from a set of fat quarters that I am enhancing with my stash that are golds, grays and off white colors.
I like big quilts so I want to make 30 star blocks so I can set them 5x6 so every month I'll make 2 blocks except on uneven months (Jan, March, etc) where I will make 3.

I LOVE everybody's stars so far, they are beautiful.
I made 2 and both are in memory of my BFF that passsed away 15 months ago in her favorite color...purple:

I will take better pics tomorrow to replace these.

tapngram 01-15-2011 03:36 PM

Love all the blocks and can hardly wait to get started on mine. This is the first time I have tried the BOM and am excited about it.

tapngram 01-15-2011 03:39 PM

I like both of the blocks. The space ship one stands out much better so it is my favorite. :D

laureneberhard 01-15-2011 03:41 PM

Oh can't wait to get started on mine tomorrow.. All very nicely done. Is it Feb. 15th yet?

MisDixie 01-15-2011 03:53 PM

Love the stars Ladies and Gent! and thanks to you all I have narrowed down some color choices! Going to wait for a few more pictures of blocks to make the final cut! (pardon the pun!)
