Here are the pics of my blocks for this week. E 8 is fairly straightforward, J 8, J 11 and J 12 all have some hand applique on them, but nothing I don't think that hasn't already cropped up with previous blocks. I had more trouble over the triangle than anything else. I'll try to draw a diagram of what I did, if you give me a bit of time.

How silly can you get? I completely forgot that I took some pics of this triangle as I was doing it, so here they are. As you can see from my diagram, I added a couple of little seams in the middle. (I must have known this one wouldn't be particularly easy). I am sure there are some other ways of doing that middle section without the extra seams, but I couldn't think of any at the time.

Drat, I can't turn the pic around, sorry

YAY! Week 11 is complete :D

Lacelady 03-16-2010 03:01 PM

Great stuff, Retro. They are looking good.

retrogirl02 03-16-2010 03:03 PM

Yours are wonderful, Lesley. That triangle looks like it could be tough...thanks for taking the time to do a tute. Maybe someday I'll try one...are they as addictive as the blocks??

Shemjo 03-16-2010 03:07 PM

Oh my. I am almost done with week 10! Gotta run and finish sew I can get at this challenge!

Exactly Retro - just the same, and if they can be, some of them are even more of a challenge. I did LS 1 recently and it was a stinker. (I will qualify that, I couldn't do it the way the pattern is shown in the book, or with the software, but by the time I had put in a few extra seams, it was just about doable).

Lacelady & retrogirl02...Grrrreat blocks!

Here are mine - I agree with Lacelady, that triangle was interesting, it took me a little while to decide how to finish it...I PP in three sections, finishing the small diamond in applique.

retrogirl02 03-16-2010 05:43 PM

Beautiful job, Wilhelmina! The maze block looks fantastic in 3 colors.

Lacelady 03-17-2010 01:16 AM

I was just going to say the same thing. It reminds me of tartan designs. Your triangle looks great too. There are probably dozens of ways of doing it - the main thing is to get it done.

wilhelmina 03-17-2010 07:42 AM

I agree with Lacelady, it is all about getting it done!!

luvmortherest 03-17-2010 11:41 AM

all the blocks look awesome

Mamaskeeto 03-17-2010 03:00 PM

Everyones blocks are looking great. I have one done and should be working on them instead of playing on the computer.

These computers can be quite distracting.

sandpat 03-18-2010 05:31 AM

All of your blocks look great! Lesley, I was thinking about the tri and doing it just the way you did..so thats good to know. I actually have J11 done. I'm gonna try to sneak in a couple more this morning before moving to my next "must get done" project.

Great minds think alike, Patti

Sounds really doable to me Jolo. If you can manage to keep sewing when our schedule lists a week off, you would soon catch up. And starting from week 11 is a good idea, because at least you would keep up with us from this point, rather than starting from week 1 and always be so far behind.

Edit: Forgot to say I love the three colour ones, Sheree.

sandpat 03-20-2010 03:55 PM

Sheree...I LOVE your blocks! I keep looking at them and wondering how long it took you to figure out how you were placing the colors....you did a great job!

Jolo....just jump in with the rest of us!!! Sometimes we get a little ahead...sometimes we fall a little behind...you'll be right on track if you start in at this week...actually...ahead of me!!

Week 11 is done! Whoo Hoo! The basket block is a tad off but when joined in a row it will work out just fine.

I went to a local quilt show today and this quilt was titled Dear Jane meets Elvis. Thought everyone might enjoy see it.

luvmortherest 03-20-2010 09:24 PM

awesome blocks mama

the quilt is cute

Lacelady 03-21-2010 02:04 AM

Beautifully done, but a tad too colourful for me.
Great set of blocks, Mamaskeeto. It seems that people aren't having so many problems with the triangle as I thought they might. Well done everyone.

sandpat 03-21-2010 05:02 AM

mama....your blocks look wonderful! The Elvis quilt is different isn't it? Such bright and just fun fabrics! She must like the appy blocks, there seem to be quite a few and I must say, she did a good job with them!

Lesley...well, you know I would be having problems with it of course...I have it done..but I'm not liking the look of it. I'm struggling with getting that bottom triangle to have a point on the top  I'm just NOT good at that seam!

I just went back and looked at yours...I'm gonna take mine apart and do it over...

Shemjo 03-21-2010 06:46 AM

Good loookin' Mama! Loved the quilt show and spent lots of time looking at the DJ meets Elvis! It was even wilder in person with the neon colors!
There were some awesome quilts at the Bits and Pieces Quilt Show at Queeny Park, and it is still going on today! I won a door prize.

Sorry you are having problems, Sandpat - Can you see from my close up that I put seams in that little cream triangle at the top? I left the bottom of the Y open when I was sewing in the bottom triangle. That enables you to open it up to help you get round that corner. It's the equivalent of snipping into the corner. I hope that helps.

Well...this is the best I can do for now anyway. It might be the best I can do on it period. But...I am officially...still on schedule!!

Week 11

Shemjo 03-21-2010 04:18 PM

Very nice! I am working on the applique! ugh. It isn't pretty!

cutebuns 03-21-2010 04:32 PM

I am still way behind, I was going to work on them today and somehow I got sidetracked, I am not sure how that keeps happening,

sandpat 03-21-2010 04:38 PM

Well...my pointy points aren't perfect by any stretch...but if you look at last week's then this week's...well...Thank you very much, Retro!!!!

luvmortherest 03-21-2010 07:47 PM

they look great to me sandpat

Sheree from Chicago 03-21-2010 08:58 PM

Mamaskeeto and Sandpat your blocks look great!
Applique is getting a bit better, but I am going to go to great lengths to avoid Y seams (I get weary with repeated ripping out). With that being said, I appliqued the top diamond on the triangle. Is that considered a cheat?
