Hi guys, here is this weeks thread. I'm posting it now because I have a couple of questions for those of you who are ahead of me.

It appears to me that A10 could be pieced like a log cabin block then have the triangles and melon appliqued on top...is that how ya'll did it?

On the tri..... :?: Can you PP this with the curve or should I pp the "arcs" then just cut the curves from a template and sew those together???

The rest look pretty straight forward if not the easiest...at least doable. :D

Shemjo 04-20-2010 07:51 AM

Will look into that! PP I mean.

I did A10 exactly as you describe. With the tri, I made up a rectangle that consisted of two coloured sections with the background triangle in between, using PP methods, for each curved section, then I appliqued them to a background triangle.

Thanks exactly what I was wondering....thanks for the info Lesley and for posting yours...they look wonderful too! I like your idea of appliqueing to the tri...but I might be brave enough to try sewing the curve...we'll see... Thank you!

Sharon...I was thinking about this all day...I don't think you can PP a curve like that...I don't think it would work... BUT...we can PP the arcs with that little tri between the 2 sections. :D

Mamaskeeto 04-20-2010 04:33 PM

Lace, your blocks look great!

wilhelmina 04-20-2010 07:21 PM

Lesley, Your blocks are perfection! :)

Is your background fabric the same weight as the batik fabric? I am curious because the background looks like a heavier weight muslin, or is it a different cream fabric? All your blocks are lovely.

It's Kona cotton Natural, so it looks like muslin, but handles like regular quilting cotton. Washes like a dream too. I bought a bolt of it (15 yards) from Hancocks of Paducah, and I still have a few yards left on the bolt yet, with only 41 blocks left to make. But I am going to use this same cotton for all the inbetween tris, so that will use up a fair bit. I am thinking of getting a wide batik backing, perhaps from Thousands of Bolts, if not, this fabric comes in a wide width too.

sandpat 04-21-2010 04:48 AM

Lesley...your tris will look like they are "floating" won't they using the same fab as the "betweens"...how interesting!! :D

jolo 04-21-2010 05:14 AM

Well I finished A13,but am almost afraid to do the others, lol. Les yours look beautiful. Thanks for the tips,it will be easire now. Jolo

It will be the same as the latest posting on the main board, and yes, that's what I wanted, because I think all the work that goes into the tris gets lost with the coloured fabric either side of them. I am still trying to think of a nice design to quilt in those plain infill tris - Jane just did V shaped lines.

(Like this one:http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43342-1.htm)

sandpat 04-21-2010 02:50 PM

Thats something I hadn't thought about too much..that the tris would get lost..You are right though. I'll just have to see if mine "need" the extra competition on the edge when I get done. I have to admit, although I'm trying...they don't really stand up to what I'd like to see. They are getting better as we go though.

BTW Lesley...your link has an extra ) at the end and won't go to the right page.

Sorry Patti - here it is again,
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43342-1.htm

Because I decided to do plain background tris, there are one or two tris that I have altered a bit. i.e. BR1, I haven't bothered to put the narrow strips on the outside, I just extended the diagonal lines right to the edges, and I've just done the same thing with RS1 too. I'll probaby 'fix' TR7 the same way - those are ridiculously narrow strips on the edges.

Two great sets ladies, they are all looking great!

sandpat 04-22-2010 04:27 AM

Oh Sarah and Jan...your sets look great! I've got to get started on mine. Maybe after I get home from taking the cat to the vet today.

Sarah...I see paper behind your tri...can you tell me how you did it?

sandpat 04-23-2010 02:16 PM

Got A13 done last night...went slowly and had patience...not too bad.

It's raining here today in Florissant so thought I'd get my blocks done. I can honestly say BR9 and A11 were the most challenging blocks I've worked on so far. I worked the top of the triangle three times and just decided to do it the easy way.

jolo 04-24-2010 12:50 PM

Oh MaMa,those are OKKKKKKKKKKK. lol Yes I think this is the hardest week so far. Jolo

Lacelady 04-24-2010 01:51 PM

Great set Mama, but I found other blocks harder than this set - just goes to show how different we all are.

sandpat 04-24-2010 03:25 PM

Mama...great looking blocks! I am finishing up the hand sewing on my set tonight, so I'll post tomorrow. A11 didn't strike me as all that bad....Now I still have to fiddle with the top of that tri tonight though. I'm going to applique the top of that little doohickie thing down and then I'm done with it though. Overall...I thought last week was harder and next week looks lots easier to me...We're all different I guess!

I did get the curves sewn, but I'm having a little bit of a problem getting teensy wrinkles sewn into the curve. I pin like a gazillion times...the thing is almost solid pins when I try to sew it, but I still find those little tiny wrinkles and I can't seem to get it to smooth away completely.

wilhelmina 04-24-2010 04:42 PM

Mamaskeeto - they are lovely blocks! And...they are done!

I have been too busy this week, so all I have done is print this weeks blocks. I may save this group for later...:)

Shemjo 04-24-2010 04:49 PM

Great blocks, Mama! Lovely as usual. Did you show us your drawing prize?

Janstar 04-24-2010 06:31 PM

Sharon, thanks for reminding me. I wanted to take a picture of my goodies from our drawing. I received a hug ziplock bag of velumn for paper piecing and a book by Kathy Lamancusa - A Patchwork Collection of Inspirational Stories - Quilts are Forever. I'm an advid reader and love the stories I have read so far.

Sand kyour blocks look great. Love your colors.

Shemjo 04-25-2010 06:19 AM

Beautiful blocks, Sandpat. Thanks for sharing your winnings, Kathy.

Esqmommy 04-25-2010 06:37 AM

Wow, terrific blocks everyone. Here's another week that has gone by with no blocks being posted by me. I think Luv and I will have to have a pity party together that we are behind...but, hopefully, in about two weeks, I'll have lots to post!!

Mama, thanks for sharing the photos of your prize. I think the others were wondering if I sent it out - okay to all you others out there...remember, if you are able to post your work for the 6 week period, you will be entered in the drawing for a prize. It will change each time, so you will be pleasantly surprised (at least I hope you will be happy!) with your gift.

Have a great day everyone!

Lacelady 04-25-2010 02:24 PM

Great set of blocks Patti, and I couldn't see a wrinkle in sight. Well done.

Esq., don't worry, I'm sure you will catch up soon, perhaps whhen we get to the weeks with only 3 square blocks per week, instead of 4.

wilhelmina 04-25-2010 07:26 PM

Patti - love your blocks, you sure have pretty fabric

Have a great day everyone!

well this last was partially dedicated to repainting the master bedroom (with the help of my son, he is good for something). wednesday we did the primer. friday we painted one coat of a beautiful light blue. friday the water heater went out. friday i noticed some swelling in DH's neck and had to call the on-call transplant-coordinator. she told me to get him started on his new water pill and watch him and if it got worse to call her again. saturday DH's brother and i changed out the hot water heater, then my dad came over tho help finish it. today (sunday) son and i put a second coat on the bedroom. have to have DH at the liver clinic at 7 am monday. whew maybe after that things will calm down and i can get something done.

Janstar 04-25-2010 07:45 PM

Get something done??? I think you have gotten quite alot done my dear! Those blocks will get finished so don't stress about them. Take a little time for yourself too!!! Hope DH's tests come out ok!

luvmortherest 04-25-2010 08:24 PM

thank you jan

at least the bedroom is the retreat that i always wanted now

Esqmommy 04-25-2010 08:24 PM

My response was the same as Janstar's! You've been a crazy busy lady! I worked on quilting all day, but nothing to do with Jane...but now I'm that much further into my "to do" pile! I feel happy that much is done.

I hope to be caught up on a few other things and then get back to my little 4.5 inch friends...or should I say "frememies"!! LOL!

sandpat 04-26-2010 05:03 AM

Oh gosh luv....I'm tired, worn out and just plain pooped from just reading about what you've been doing!! Man, when you get back to the blocks, you'll feel like you are on vacation! I hope DH's tests come back good....

"frenemies".....love that...the best description yet!!! Although...I've found that I'm just friends with next weeks...they are very friendly to me.... soooo far...I'm not done of course...

Mamaskeeto 04-26-2010 08:43 AM

Luv you have plenty of time to complete your blocks. Remember this isn't a race but a support system to help each other along. I can't imagine how you get everything done that you do. You are the busiest person I know.

luvmortherest 04-26-2010 03:34 PM

sandpat, yes it will be a vacation and i told DH that i hope nobody schedules me for anything thursday. he asked me why and i told him i was going to sew all day thursday

mama very carefully that is how. lol

as for results we really don't know anything more than before we went. they decided to do an ultrasound on his neck to see if everything is ok there. his liver doctor said that if his liver numbers don't stabalize in two weeks they are going to do a biopsy on his liver. now the waiting begins again.

sandpat 04-26-2010 03:50 PM

Well luv, I'll be hoping that NOTHING interfers with your Thursday! I'll also hope that his numbers stabalize...that way things can just get back to normal for you
