I was clearing the decks today, so to speak. (My sewing room is now a total disaster!)
Anyway, decided to go ahead and make this block since it is an "easy" block! Well, multiple 'frogging' sessions later it's together. I really have goofed this block up. I wanted the red as the main fabric. That's a good choice. I wanted the white print for the light. Good so far. THEN, I picked that blue without even considering that it should be a medium color and not dark. Sigh! It is what it is! What it isn't is pink!
Just a word of warning to everyone. It's an easy block so be sure to read the directions!! I think I was acting like a 'know-it-all' and that is why I spent so much time ripping seams this afternoon!

i feel your pain, girlfriend. been there. done that. for the same reason, i'm sure.

if it's any consolation, i think it's fabulous. the blue is perfect. :P

I like it just as it is! What great colors for a kids quilt.

I am inspired!

I am going to go check my stash and do the BOMs this year with all of you. :D

Denise 12-31-2007 08:13 PM

looks pretty good to me, all the colors look great, nice and bright. i agree the blue looks awesome with the other colors . nice work.

DebJ 12-31-2007 08:26 PM

I agree with Patrice the blue is perfect. Also you are definately not alone in the rip/resew department either. I did the same on the Frolic BOM earlier and it was suppose to be simple too. Well, for me it wasn't a frolic. Looking forward to seeing more. This block is lovely, you did a great job.

Here is my block. The first BOM I've done. I plan to go back and do several other blocks for a RFL auction quilt.

annmarie 01-01-2008 08:38 AM

Beautiful colors both of yu. that really is a nice block.

Yvonne 01-01-2008 08:59 AM

Nifty!
Your block looks great.

imaquilter 01-01-2008 10:37 AM

Your blocks are beautiful! I can't wait to make mine. Maybe tonight when things settle down here.

I'm glad you all liked it, I had never seen it before either.

PamH 01-01-2008 12:06 PM

Your blocks look really good. I didn't try any last year but got this one printed off and am ready to start the new year out right.

I decided not to join the BOM last year as I had too much going on but I'm going to try to do them this year. I decided to make my block to go with my Birthday swap blocks so that I can make a bigger quilt. Here is the first one.

I have this month's BOM finished. It was a nice one to do. I saw the pattern on the web site, and it didn't appeal to me because maybe it was browns? Anyway, now it's done, I like it. I try to make a couple of different color variations each month. Eventually this whole sampler of blocks will be a quilt. Sara

Sampler of BOM's that will someday be a whole quilt

Ok I am so excited!! I did it!! My first BOM is done. I was getting really frustrated. I done it once and somehow my measurements must have been off and it looked bad. I think it was when I tried to do the shortcut in making the triangle. Anyway I did it the long way and it paid off. I completed it..... :)

I know I am a beginner but I was starting to think I might be destined to only do blocks.

Karenmay 01-03-2008 12:34 AM

You did good Toni...that looks great!

Karen

Chele 01-03-2008 05:37 AM

Lois-nounoe 01-05-2008 04:52 PM

Very interesting block! I love all of them! Chele, how in the world did you get yours done with you eyes still focused!! Wild one! :D Is this the first block of the new year or do I have to get the pattern to catch up? Would like to join all of you so I can use up some of the fabric I have stocked up.

Well I used my scrapes from the New Years Day mystery quilt. Picture looks a little dull. Guess I better start taking them durring the day instead of night. Or an excuse to buy new camera. lol

Chele 01-05-2008 04:57 PM

Pretty Ceannastahr. Love that batik! Can't wait to see your mystery quilt!

ceannastahr 01-05-2008 05:02 PM

imaquilter 01-07-2008 02:45 PM

You all have done so great on your blocks. It is so exciting to see blocks made from the pattern you selected.

I too, think a whole quilt done with this block would be very pretty!

I finished first my block of the month. I hope to keep up this year!
Thought if I use Christmas fabric, maybe at the end of the year there will be something to put together. :D

DebbiD 01-08-2008 09:39 AM

Going to have to try this block. Great colors and variations everyone.

Country Quilter 01-08-2008 09:44 AM

They are all so pretty....doing good everyone! I'm just about ready to get caught up on these!

quiltmaker101 01-08-2008 10:10 AM

Very nice all of you! I am not even thinking about BOMs at this point. Too many other things to get done first. I have to pick a color for all year for the BOMs before I start one!

I have so say, Chele, I didn't even have to look at the name to know that was your block! Psychedelic Baby!

And Saravincent, I was just thinking yours have a Southwestern flair when I noticed you are in Southern Utah. DUH! Of course you have Southwestern taste!

And mgrhs - have those same fabrics! How funny! (We have good taste! LOL)

Actually, I am using scraps. I made my three boys shirts for family photos about20+ years ago, and had another couple of aqua pieces. This quilt will be for one of those boys. He remembers the shirts, and he really needs a new quilt. But I'd better get sewing faster to get 70 or 80 blocks done so I can work on a color combination for ME!

MaryL 01-09-2008 04:22 PM

All are really nice.

This went together pretty good, only had to rip a couple of seams. I need to press and trim. It looks much better in person than in photo. Pastel colors never look good in photo

patricej 01-10-2008 02:32 PM

another beautiful Ruthification!!! :P

that pink is fascinating. is that all one fabric, or did you piece the pieces?

Knot Sew 01-11-2008 04:39 AM

I followed the directions to a T It is all pieced. I bought the pink last year at joanns or wallmart :D
