This month's pick is "The Old Red Barn" block from Quilters Cache.com. It is a PP.
Remember to ck the one inch sq block I found that template B was off and needed adjustment. Enjoy... Http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TheOldRedBarnBlock.Html |

I found it, yeah!!!! And I just got some red barn material. I'm all set. Thank you Hobbykat.
|
Thank you!

I still have to do Feb's but will get that one and this one done! I love this one.
|
Thanks for the link Qbee. I was really anxious to see the March block. Now to get started.
|
Got it! Thanks for your help!!
|
ARRGGGHHH another PP. At least this one looks to be a bit easier than the farmhouse.
|
Might be easier if I could get all the pieces printed off, unfortunately, no matter how many settings I change, I can't get part of two, one on each page. And Incidentally, wouldn't you know, yesterday, I put a very small red barn at the very back on the left side of the grass area, hoping it would show it as being on the "back 40". So, where am I going to put this barn now???
That is assuming I can find a way to get those 3 missing pieces printed off. |

Please share if you figure out how to get all pieces printed off correctly. I think this is the hardest part of paper piecing----getting the pattern printed correctly.
|
Just printed it, everything went fine. I didn't need to make any adjustments.

Awesome block
|
I got mine printed. I hope to be able to work on it this Sunday.
Not crazy about another PP but I can see that houses lend themselves to this method. |

i have google chrome and internet explorer both on my computer i have found if i use internet explorer it prints out right with goggle i have to ajust settings to get the right size
|
I used some margin settings that someone suggested from the last month's block. Go to print preview, disable "shrink to fit" and reset margins to L 0.5, rt 0.25, top 0.5, bottom 0.25. Use portrait setting. Worked for me this time.

I haven't tried printing this one yet, but I'm thinking that since since so many of us are adding some fabric to make 12" blocks, maybe it doesn't really matter if it turns out a little different size. The adjustment can be made in the edge pieces. Of course, if there are differences within the pattern itself, like the church windows, that's different. Ain't technology great. At first I thought, why doesn't the website correct the pattern, but look at the different results just among us. Between different computers, different browsers, different printers, we're a mess! :):)

This time I'm learning and taking things slow and in steps. Printed the templates and found out I had to print A at 105% and B at 104%. I then cut out the pieces to join to be sure all is OK. Had to adjust right and left seam allowance of bottom barn as they were a bit larger but no problem with all other pieces lining up. NOTE - this makes a 10" square where Jan and Feb BOM's are 12" if that is what your planning. Next step for me will take time to figure out fabrics although I'm itching to put it together! Thanks - I was looking forward to March 1!!
|
Thank you for this BOM. I had no problem printing the correct size. It looks easier than the farmhouse block! I finished Feb block, but haven't posted a picture yet.
|
Mine printed out ok. Thanks for the block. I have my farmhouse done but cannot post pictures. I quess I need a card reader?? to post them. Thanks again.
|
See above...do the 100% and move your margins and you'll get everything printed at correct size

If you preview print copy. Make sure 100% .. turn off Headers and Footers (Its the 5th Icon over if you start counting at the icon of printer.) Use your arrows on the page to adjust so everything is showing on page. Should only have to adjust bottom if you have turned of headers and footers. This is how I successfully printed out the pattern. Good Luck..hope this helps.

I set all margins at 0.25 and I was able to fit all of Template B on the paper.
|
I had to do a lot of finegaling, but finally got both templates to print out without any parts missing. It only took half a ream of paper, LOL, but I have the templates. Since I did the last ones, my printer had an update and nothing was the same as it had been, thus, my total confusion but I didn't let the monster have it's way. I ended up taking my margins to 0.0 to do it.

I'm new to this forum and would love to have access to the other months that have posted (guessing Jan and Feb). How do I find these links?
Thanks, Suzanne in VT (who must do that red barn!) |

Thanks, Suzanne in VT (who must do that red barn!) This page will be updated as each month is added so all 12 months' information will be there. |
Thanks for that link.
Now here is another question for those that do this kind of block, how do you find the fabrics that look like bricks, stones, grass, etc.? Is there a particular online fabric store that I could go to that would have a good assortment? Thanks, Suzanne |
