Finished up my top with the blocks I made from the 2013 Blocks of the Month. I did not make & use all the blocks offered, think I even made one not presented this year. This top measures 67 x 67", and i'll get to quilting it as soon as I finish up two quilts that are my sisters. This is a new setting for me.

Very pretty! Really great colors.

Those 9 blocks look pretty cool in that setting! Is it from a pattern or did you "wing it" ....????

Lovely quilt, I like your choice of colors, so pretty.

CAS49OR 01-21-2014 02:55 PM

I want to make some more blocks to continue using my fabric. I get a block of the day in my email. They are six inch blocks. Do I just double all the measurements to make 12" blocks? And do they mean it finishes at six inches but will be 6.5" when pieced? Because most of my QB BOTMs are about 12.5".

Here's an example of the block of the day. http://www.quiltpro.com/botd/setup/2...mBlock_Win.pdf

I'm looking forward to the one on QB starting in Feb!

Thanks for you help.

I have finally finished all the blocks that will go into my 2013 Block of the month quilt. My biggest hangup was trying to figure out the setting triangles after deciding to set it on-point. I never did anything like this before. I have yet to do the four corner pieces, but that should be a piece of cake. Thanks to Electric Quilt software, I was finally able to figure out how to complete these triangles in order to continue the secondary pattern formed when I added Irish Chain blocks to the quilt. I plan on free-motion quilting the individual blocks before attaching, and I'm contemplating a border as well, so this remains a long way from finished.

I have to say, I love these Quilting Board BOMs. This one was supposed to be challenging and it was. It continues to be. And I'm loving every minute of it.

Your quilt is wonderful, thanks for posting. You inspire me to finish 4 more blocks to finish DDs Steeler Nation quilt. I enjoyed the 2013 BOM, learned so much!

rural01 02-18-2014 06:18 AM

Thanks Sula Bug. I'm blushing. I will definitely share a finished pic, when that happens. I just ordered some yellow and white gingham for the backing fabric and some really pretty dark peacock feather fabric for the binding strips. I can't wait to start free-motion quilting. I have only done one other quilt with that technique, so my challenges continue. I love that!

MamaHen 02-18-2014 06:41 AM

rural01...so happy to see another 2013 BOM top finished. Great learning experience to set the blocks on point. I learned a lot when I did mine. Next time it won't seem such a daunting job to figure it out. Remember to show us a picture of your finished quilt. I'll also post a picture of mine when I get it quilted, sometime this year! ha ha

rural01 02-21-2014 06:12 AM

Thanks djmat. If we didn't inspire each other, where would any of us be? Glad to help. I really enjoyed this BOM too. It certainly was a learning experience.

Indeed this journey was a learning experience. You're right, and I hadn't thought of that before, the next one will be easier. Thanks for that; this is one more in a long line of revelations. I cannot for the life of me figure out how you made your quilt top--so many angles. You obviously put lots of thought into it. It is beautiful and really showcases favorite blocks. I cannot begin to imagine how you came up with all those angles.
