I am thinking of doing all the squares to catch up. Interested to see how this works.

Two more blocks done. One from April, and one from May. My Evening Star was so boring, that I machine appliqued a square on point in the center.

Sauki1 05-11-2017 03:14 AM

Love the dark center theme Barb :)

Quiltmaker here's to a speedy recovery. Had heart surgery myself to repair an aneurysm a few years back. You'll be up and running in no time :)

Thanks Sauki1. When I started my monthly blocks, they were so boring that I had to do something. I had done the first Jan block and it was okay but I didn't "like" it. When the second block was added, I knew I had to do something and do it quick. The Friendship Star in the center of the Spinning Blades block was a natural to add some punch. I wanted to stay within the color range I had chosen...you know...a good guy quilt, so I made the center the dark brown. That meant I had to rip out the first center I had done and put some punch there. It worked. It's been fun trying to figure out how to get the "punch" in the middle without overwhelming the block. I know..way more info than you wanted, but I thought it might help some beginner piecer/quilter out there.

I haven't done two of the blocks yet, because I am not a fan of a flower pot looking block unless it is on point. Well, I have decided to put my blocks on point with multicolored sashing between them and cornerstones. Now I can make the 2 blocks that really demand an on point setting. Soon I hope to start with the sashing. This is going to turn out to be a very nice quilt. I love EQ for helping show me what a quilt has the potential to be.

Good Morning everyone. I was late signing up for this quiltblock bee....I haven't been on Quilting Board for a few years. My cancer has flared up several times and I just wasn't up to par. I have the first three completed. It is raining here in southern Pennsylvania..a good time to sew. Everyones blocks are so pretty. Looking forward to watching and admiring your work.
Peace and Blessings

Welcome to the Bee. I hope you find enjoyment in doing the blocks. Remember all it takes is doing one a month to stay in. If you have any questions be sure to ask. We have a great group of ladies here.

Jean

Barb, I love your paisleys..have you thought of using the darker pc as the sashing? I've been thinking of setting my blocks on point too. Love the layout in EQ, I'm not quite that adept to working with mine, but love it. I just finished creating a 'pattern' in EQ off an old quilt I have that's seen better days. It's made up and ready for quilting. THAT was fun doing that. Was quite proud of myself for figuring that part out..lol

Thanks for the wishes for Marlene, I know she'll appreciate them..

Awesome layout Barb! As my pack of fat eighths is dwindling, I've been auditioning layouts for the blocks I have so far. Here's what I'm thinking for them!

Totally love everyone's blocks this month! Here are mine, done today when it is FINALLY raining! It's been exceedingly dry for about 6 months. Still working in the navy/green/turquoise/pure white color range using my FQ set.

Barb and Kristi love your ideas for layout !!! You inspire me to work on my layout again !! Beautiful blocks everyone!

Tomara 05-14-2017 04:42 PM

HI everyone I am back going to try and get caught up on the months I missed. Been making lap quilts for my church to give to those in need or terminal ill. Think I have a good supply made for now. Been an interesting challenge and experience to say the least. Now for some me time. All the blocks look great that I have seen.

Oksewnsew 05-14-2017 05:22 PM

Great Tomara, had posted a bit ago wondering where you were.. ;o) Glad you're back.

Cerise 05-15-2017 01:41 AM

I have to say, I am so frustrated at this point Right now, I have a love hate relationship with my rotary cutter, and this would have been the first FG that I have ever done. When I did the four of them, I realized, I cut the fabric to 3x5, not the 3x5 1/2. I will have another go at it again tonight.

Oksewnsew 05-15-2017 06:09 AM

Cerise, just a question - are you sure you're posting on the correct thread? I haven't been notified that you joined the Bee. I'm sorry, what is 'FG'?

Cerise 05-15-2017 11:27 AM

I was trying the Evening Star, and the FG is flying geese.

retiredteacher09 05-15-2017 07:20 PM

Welcome, Cerise. :).

Cerise 05-16-2017 02:14 PM

Thank you Connie.

kathryn7887 05-18-2017 05:31 AM

Welcome Cerise, many times my flying geese look more like dead ducks.

Here is my Evening Star. I was too lazy to do the flying geese so I just used HST instead. Doubt I will get to the other block.

I just love your blocks fellow members. All so pretty and georgous. I love them all. Hopefully can get my made this month. Since they are easy blocks, I just may be able to do this.

Oksewnsew 05-20-2017 01:23 PM

That's really pretty, looks so Christmasy. Happylab, sure you can do it - getting them cut out is what takes the time. lol

retiredteacher09 05-20-2017 07:24 PM

Great block, Bibliostone. I like the center design.

yay, got this month done! Also played catchup and got the flower basket from last month done too! I decided to trim both layers of fabric from the corners of the star block. Sewed up the trimmings into some half square triangles. I'll use them either in the scrappy border or on the back.

petuniaflowers 05-21-2017 02:53 PM

Cool! Guess I double posted the pic!

Oksewnsew 05-21-2017 03:10 PM

Lookin' good. Very festive..

jaba 05-21-2017 03:14 PM

Looks awesome, I can hardly wait until the 1st. Is anyone else doing the Moda Blockheads? 6 1/2" blocks but they are every week. I have some dear Jane's I started probably 2 or maybe 3 years ago so am hoping they will co ordinate someway:)

retiredteacher09 05-21-2017 08:11 PM

Petuniaflowers: Very pretty. Congrats on catching up. :)

Jaba: I am subscribed to the Moda Blockheads but haven't started yet. I also joined their Facebook page. I am hoping to get a few done within the next week.
