CAS49OR 06-05-2013 10:28 AM

Sula your plate is Gorgeous! Your quilt is going to be beautiful

starshine 06-05-2013 10:31 AM

I have yet to get on the BOM bandwagon. I wanted to do the houses and still haven't gotten myself organized enough to get it done. But I came across this months pictures and they are all wonderful. Don't remember who was doing the yellow, black, white &grey for her daughter but maybe if you think of bees instead it will be easier. What we don't do for our kids huh!

So many neat ideas, love your colours Sulabug!

I had a large circle from the last mess up, so I cut this.

CAS49OR 06-05-2013 07:10 PM

btw, for those of you who ended up with way too big plate, use the 4.5 line on your template.

Do you mean you aren't able to print out the pattern or ?

CAS49OR 06-06-2013 11:04 AM

What do you think? DH says it is better without the little "stamens" I cut. I agree, looking at it --- it seems a starfish attacked my block!

Obviously, this is not quilted yet. I used Elmer's to tack down the edges and used Heat n Bond for the center.

djmat 06-06-2013 11:15 AM

CAS, I like the "starfish" in the center of your DP!

CAS49OR 06-06-2013 11:19 AM

Thanks, it's the artist in me trying to do something unique.

Yeah, I got mine done early! I used my Darling Zimmerman ruler & so mine has 20 blades. I cut my square large so I haven't squared it up yet.

Dedemac 06-07-2013 09:44 AM

Joyce the block looks great! Who made the black fabric? I think I need some of that.

Thank you now I can look for it up here. I get to go shopping next Friday at some new quilt shops. Now I have something to reference. I might be able to find some remnants.

I had the same problem last week, I cleaned up cookies, history, virus scan, and it started working again, what made it not work in the first place is still a mystery. Was ready to call the Geek Squad.

I've had my block done, but was having computer problems, so didn't get to see everyone's blocks until today. They are all great. I decided to start quilting as I go. But instead of going back and doing them all from the start, I'll just do two for the months left. And in no particular order. I'm learning to FMQ, so I'm excited about these.
So here is my June, and my Feb.

djmat 06-09-2013 01:06 PM

klgreene, very pretty blocks!

CAS49OR 06-09-2013 01:44 PM

Very pretty Klgreen, I like the quilting on your DP.

Maybe you need to down size the picture again.. Only reason I can think of for it not to upload to the site is the file being too large or the way the file is being saved is not compatible with the QB sites format.. Hmmm a real puzzle.

Hi all, just returned from our trip to Alaska on Thursday and was anxious to catch up, I was sorry to hear of the hurdles with this block. So I went to JoAnns and purchased the Omnigrid Easy Pointed Dresden Templates...half price sale on quilting notions. Block came out correct side and fit together nicely...16 blades. Just finished up this morning, here is my pic

Mirror Image... Is that the name of the technique... Haha.. Now I know what to call what I have been doing. I just love all the different DP's one can achieve using this method.

I love your earthy fabrics... so warm. :) :)

Jingle 06-13-2013 06:45 AM

All are beautiful. I am not in this but, since I am making a DP quilt. I thought I would take a look. I too made large block trying to figure out what size to make. I used a fan ruler and no instructions for DP. I may make another quilt with big ones or put it on the back. I will decide later.

I love this block thimblebug6000. It is so different than those I have seen using DP technique. DH says it looks something floating in space. Guess his opinion matches the others comments. Thanks for sharing

So I think I might use this as either a Pillow sham or a pillow. I think it turned out pretty good, but I will make another one correctly tomorrow.

I will just have to use different fabric, I really did like the background fabric but I only have enough left to make a matching Pillow, so I will have to use something else.

Oh wow this looks like a flower in a field. Love it!

I think it looks really different with the center. Look at it like the center of a flower. It's unique and very eye appealing.

Difergie 06-13-2013 08:01 PM

Started mine today..got plate part done..but need to put other pieces up with it so I know what color I want the background to be... my design wall is full at the moment...so it will get completed next week...enjoyed making it, always thought I would do one 'someday'...not sure if I am going to hand sew or machine appliqué...am not a great hand stitcher

Thanks Jenniky yeah i agree it if fun to see what effect you get doing that. I learned this in a quilting class you put two mirrors together and position them the size of your blade and place it in different spot on your material and it gives you a preview of what your block would look like then you use a clear template and trace part of the pattern on the template than use the tracing to help line up each blade so they are exactly alike.

Jenniky 06-14-2013 06:34 AM

I havent used mirrors. The class that I took we find the beginning of each repeat in the fabric. Then I cut the fabric based on where the repeats are. Then when I have twelve repeats of the fabric depending on how many blades Im using in my DP I then layer the fabrics. Using long qulting pins to go through coordinating dots or any other spot that can be easily identified to line up the fabrics. Usually end up with eight to nine pins. Then put pieces of cork on the end of the pins to keep fabric on pins . Then I do a basting zig zag stitch about three inches or so in a zig zag up and across the stack of fabric. This holds all the fabric lined up for cutting. Remove the pins and then cut as many of the template stacks as I can from the stack of fabric. I usually get from eight to nine DP's from one stack of repeats. I wish I could remember what the name of the class was. I took it at my LQS. :)
