Jenniky.........I love this block too, you have done an amazing job making it. Now I am envious, did you use the same template as you did for your original Dresden Plate? It looks similar to a OBW pattern.
:D :D :D :D

Jenniky 06-01-2013 03:13 PM

Not sure what OBW stands for... I used a different template and layered all of the fabric layered perfectly on their repeats.... tacked them in place and then cut stacks of 12 blades. :)

OBW is short for One Block Wonder. It is the very same way that you have made your second Dresden plate. I just love the way it turns out when you stack your fabric & cut it this way.

Hope darling daughter appreciates this ugly thing. What a nightmare, curves, points, applique, whew, glad that's over.
Off to sleep & tomorrow need to work on grandbaby's fairie quilt for her 3rd birthday this summer.

Love these blocks. That paisley block is a stunner.

mimiknoxtaylor 06-02-2013 04:41 AM

Jenniky, I love your paisley block. Like Sulabug said it sure looks like a OBW.
djmat, I like your block. I think it has a modern appearance. Spent yesterday at the ball field watching grandson play so today I play!

I don't know why you would call it ugly.. I think it looks grand.

Thanks Mimi and Sula.... OBW is probably the name of the technique Im using. with the stacking. It is a really fun to see what comes out .

djmat 06-02-2013 01:50 PM

Not very fond of Steeler Nation colors, thought daughter would want more colors than yellow, black, grey & white in this quilt. I have to add 12 more ugly blocks to make the queen layout that she wants. Glad I'm halfway through!
At least I'm learning new techniques. Thanks, Jen!!!

djmat 06-02-2013 01:55 PM

Jen, I really love your paisley dresden, it is awesome!

Djamat - The colors are nice, just don't think of them as Steelers colors.

Thimblebug I like the floating planet. It's a happy block.

I'm cheating a little, this is the one I did for the Craftsy class last year I still haven't done anything with it. I may make another one in a different style. I used scraps for the blades, the pepper fabric was from a shirt I made my DH last year also.

WOW you're all so fast!

Jenniky, I love your paisley block!
Djamat, I don't see anything ugly, I love it!
Thimblebug, yours is beautiful too! Like Dedemac said, it's floating!
Dedemac, I love your different style. It looks like it's rotating!

Oh I understand then.... Hard to work with colors you are not fond of. I have experienced the same. ;)

Very cool DP also love the spinning effect.

mimiknoxtaylor 06-03-2013 04:46 AM

These blocks are awesome! Can't decide it I want the points or rounded. I did pull out a main fabric that I've been saving & only have a small amount of. I plan to use it for every other blade. Maybe I can start today

thimblebug6000 06-03-2013 07:25 AM

Dedemac, I didn't even notice it's "floating" :D I was so concentrating on getting a motif centered on the circle....

CAS49OR 06-03-2013 12:17 PM

This is really pretty, I love the super swirl look of it!

This is neat, it looks like a spinning windmill.

Well I made a small mistake on my Template, but rather than toss it I tried to add more blades. It worked but now my block is too big. It turned out to be a 16 in block rather than the 12. So I think I might use this as either a Pillow sham or a pillow. I think it turned out pretty good, but I will make another one correctly tomorrow.

I will just have to use different fabric, I really did like the background fabric but I only have enough left to make a matching Pillow, so I will have to use something else.

djmat 06-03-2013 11:54 PM

thimblebug, love your floating spirograph planet, wow.
dedemac, wow yours is moving! nice color arrangement!
can hardly wait to see the others, but gotta get cracking on 3 swaps that need rotary cutting. Will check in later in the week. Have a great one, ya'll.
Hugs,
DJ

djmat 06-03-2013 11:55 PM

oh, mary love your black & whites!

MamaHen 06-04-2013 03:02 AM

I like all the different blocks you all are doing a great job. Mine is finished but for some reason my computer is not letting me upload pictures to this site or others. So until I figure it out I can only look at yours.

Sometimes they just do 4 blades of the same color and the center. That would save you some fabric for another square.

Jenniky 06-04-2013 05:10 AM

Marytoddliz- I have ran into the same problem of ending up with a larger DP then intended and thus have gifted several nice pillows to family and friends.

MamaHen - Your DP is fantastic. Im curious as to how your point tips are a different fabric. Is that a result of the print of the fabric... like in the Paisley DP I shared???

Scrappy DP's are one of my favorites. My DP made from the scraps of the other BOM's we have done this far sits nicely along all the other finished blocks. I really am enjoying the 2013 BOM. :)

I extended the template one inch, then made a second template out of that-cut fabric and then sewed them onto the original blade, then folded & sewed across like you showed. I made sure to include the 1/4" seam allowance in each of the template pieces where they came together.

Jenniky- Here is a close up of the blades. I only stitched in the ditch across those points when I appliqued the DP to my background fabric.

CAS49OR 06-04-2013 03:12 PM

Marybethiz I really like your background too, it will make a great modern looking pillow or sham.

MamaHen yours is gorgeous! I love how much character the added points give it. The colors are wonderful together.

I hope to have mine done tomorrow, I think I'll end up with an oversize block too so may do the whole thing over.

I just finished mine. Each blade of my Dresden Plate is made with Iris print fabric's & I love how it turned out!! Everyone's blocks so far this month are amazing. Enjoy ladies!!
:D :D :D :D

Difergie 06-04-2013 06:30 PM

Love how you did your background...all of them together look fab!

MamaHen 06-05-2013 03:24 AM

Sulabug that is going to be one very happy quilt. You DP is just amazing.

Jenniky 06-05-2013 07:41 AM

Sulabug- WOW... love you DP I concur with all the above posted comments. I have to say though I especially love your DP. The Iris fabric has a definite WOW factor in my book. It kinda of gives it a stained glass effect I think.:thumbup::thumbup:
