Well I made a small mistake on my Template, but rather than toss it I tried to add more blades. It worked but now my block is too big. It turned out to be a 16 in block rather than the 12. So I think I might use this as either a Pillow sham or a pillow. I think it turned out pretty good, but I will make another one correctly tomorrow.
I will just have to use different fabric, I really did like the background fabric but I only have enough left to make a matching Pillow, so I will have to use something else. |

What do you think? DH says it is better without the little "stamens" I cut. I agree, looking at it --- it seems a starfish attacked my block!
Obviously, this is not quilted yet. I used Elmer's to tack down the edges and used Heat n Bond for the center. I think it looks really different with the center. Look at it like the center of a flower. It's unique and very eye appealing. |
Started mine today..got plate part done..but need to put other pieces up with it so I know what color I want the background to be... my design wall is full at the moment...so it will get completed next week...enjoyed making it, always thought I would do one 'someday'...not sure if I am going to hand sew or machine appliqué...am not a great hand stitcher

Mirror Image... Is that the name of the technique... Haha.. Now I know what to call what I have been doing. I just love all the different DP's one can achieve using this method. |
I havent used mirrors. The class that I took we find the beginning of each repeat in the fabric. Then I cut the fabric based on where the repeats are. Then when I have twelve repeats of the fabric depending on how many blades Im using in my DP I then layer the fabrics. Using long qulting pins to go through coordinating dots or any other spot that can be easily identified to line up the fabrics. Usually end up with eight to nine pins. Then put pieces of cork on the end of the pins to keep fabric on pins . Then I do a basting zig zag stitch about three inches or so in a zig zag up and across the stack of fabric. This holds all the fabric lined up for cutting. Remove the pins and then cut as many of the template stacks as I can from the stack of fabric. I usually get from eight to nine DP's from one stack of repeats. I wish I could remember what the name of the class was. I took it at my LQS. :)
