Here's my rendition. This block works nicely when paired with a different 9-patch block - especially a second star block.

The corner patches make a diagonal frame for the second block.

In this quilt, I paired the 54/40 or Fight with the Ohio Star.
(no - not today. i confess to having made this a few years ago for a friend. LOL)

Very nice, one has to look real hard to see the 54/40 or fight block. It is lost in the overall design.

thimblebug6000 09-01-2013 04:34 PM

Looks like a fun block....on the road at the moment but will enjoy making it when we're home soon, thanks!

Roma Bauder 09-01-2013 09:17 PM

thanks for the new block

Nice block Patrice. I don't know why I am so taken with 4-patches, but I love them; 9-patches too. They are just so quilty. I absolutely love that quilt.

Triangles, ARG!

Gosh, I should have stayed awake in geometry class. I do not do well with triangles. ;-) Thankfully, this block didn't turn out as crooked as it looks here. It only has one pin holding it. And please ignore the stray threads. BTW, that is dark turquoise, though it looks very blue.

Rural01. Really like the yellow checks. Nice job and very good fabric choices :)

Haven't been doing BOM, but follow religiously. Just wanted to show this one I made for a boom 10 swap buddy... it is my first time making this block and I love it!

alikat110 09-02-2013 06:27 PM

Just want to add that I love what all of you have been doing with the BOM's!!!

Here is my Sept. 54-40 block. I love this block and have done it is so many different colors they all look so different. This one is to add to my black/white/yellow/green quilt. I know the white and yellow don't pop like they should, but the block goes perfect with the rest of my blocks. And I decided to fussy cut the center, although I wish the flower would have been a bit smaller.

Roma Bauder 09-05-2013 03:02 PM

I think its very pretty

This block was pretty easy but it still took me half a day. I had to rip and sew over and over to try and get the seams to line up. I even had to sew some seams 1/8" to make it happen.

CAS49OR 09-06-2013 05:22 PM

Wow! I love yours klgreen.

It's really interesting to see what everyone is doing with their colour placements on the 4 patches. Just looked at the one on quilterscache and she uses the placement that I thought was more traditional. I see some of you have your 4 patches all going one way and others have switched them out. Still out camping so won't be making mine for awhile yet, looking forward to some more pictures, thanks for posting them.

What pretty blocks! I love the pattern of your quilt Patrice...love when you can make secondary patterns!

CAS49OR 09-09-2013 07:23 AM

I just noticed I sewed one corner in the wrong direction. OOPs. I should have known I wasn't done yet! It's funny, I knew something was "off" but couldn't tell what. I spent so much time on this block and now it's coming back out of the cupboard, lol!

I didn't even notice til you mentioned it!

CAS49OR 09-09-2013 12:15 PM

lol, me either, but now it will drive me nuts till I fix it! I noticed I should have had the corner colors going in an x across the block too, but that's way too much fixin'
;)

Have mine done and keep forgetting to post the pic. Not sure I like this color placement but won't be hard to make another if I need to. Now on hurry and wait for 3 weeks...long time for a new block...patience is golden, certainly not one of my greatest assets :D

CAS49OR 09-10-2013 11:14 AM

Very pretty Jaba!

Your blocks are the way mine were supposed to be. I thought I would have an easy fix turning the block yesterday but now the whole section doesn't fit. The fabric is so worn from me ripping and sewing that I will have to make 1/3rd (at least) of the entire block over today. I may just start completely over.

Difergie 09-10-2013 11:18 AM

love your colors Jaba...nice block

Judy in PHX I just saw your block, I love the different effect, looks like tulips!

I managed to fix mine, I didn't even cut the blocks over, just ripped and sewed a few times until stuff matched up. lol.

Thanks all, I do love the colors that this quilt will be. I didn't have any trouble with this block but I did sew a "scant" 1/4" to start with and it came out perfect. I could hardly believe my luck  right the 1st time. Have to admit, it was nice, no ripped seams for a change. If I could just make that happen every time, I can only wish.

Have really enjoyed seeing everyone's blocks for this month. As we've been away camping I've finally made it home to my sewing room. I'm getting down to fewer & fewer fabrics in my b/w/g selection.... no problem.... what I have... I am using. Actually I'm quite happy with my block this month...some of the others have really been busy!

Difergie 09-15-2013 06:16 PM

Love the block! Your quilt is going to be spectacular...

jojo47 09-17-2013 06:44 PM

I'm not doing the BOM, but I do have a UFO called Tennessee Waltz (Eleanor Burns pattern) and I think it's the same block. My sister and I have a thing going in which we want to finish as many UFOs as possible before next year's quilt show. I really have to figure out how to post pics so I can show what I DO manage to get done!

That is the same block. You'll find this block in dozens of patterns. This pattern was from a Fons and Porter magazine that our quilt guild just made. The entire quilt is the 54 - 40 or fight, just two different colors schemes. My coloring isn't very good. It's much prettier than this shows. Eleanor Burns has about three different quilts that use this block. It happens to be my favorite block.

Very cute!

Jenniky 09-21-2013 03:17 PM

Wow everyone great September blocks and I also love all of the quilts that were shared which use the block. I have been busy making baby blankets and a quilted diaper bag for when my second grandson is born this November. I've been doing quite a bit of reverse quilting as I was having some difficulty with my backing bunching up. I was so excited by how wonderful the top stitching was going I didnt think to take peek underneath until it was too late. I was so tempted to just abandon the project and start over and then I thought about all the hard work I put into the piecing not to mention cost of fabric.

So that my quilting friends is what I have been up to. Will play catch up on the BOM's once all the baby items are finished. Have and Awesome Quilting Day.. OHHH and did I mention I joined a bowling league.

Do I dare try to make a quilted bowling bag.. well least wise they can comment on my unique bag and forget about my low bowling scores. Hahah... Again have a great one ladies and gents. :) :) :)
