Well, now I've found the "create a sense of order" blocks for my scrappy quilt. They all ended up too small, so the solid 1/2 of the Boston is bigger than the QST side. Heh. They still look cool, but they are not perfection. I just keep cutting away and practicing though. I'm learning a lot with little risk, since it's scraps.
I learn by trial and error. I think it works to learn by doing. You remember better when you do it that way.

Rhonda this is so neat, love the way to make half square tri. looks like you can make alot of them with less work. I can't wait to get the templates. :D :D :D

Did you cut out the center with your template? They should come out just fine that way.

Hi Rhonda, I am going to do this. I sent you a pm. I am doing the farmers wife too. this will be fun and I just love your block, they are so beautiful. Thank you so much for doing this, and I still am going to do the book markers. I am just about done with the small projects I have to get done. I will see if I can do them all on Monday. I join in but I don't know if I can keep up. My hands are not what they used to be but I do need to get back to quilting again.

I will try using my ruler but I may need to get the templates later.

Did you cut out the center with your template? They should come out just fine that way.
I think what happened was I have a bunch of 2 strip pieces of fabric left over from a tube quilt that are wide enough, but I was cutting the QST part by itself and measuring 2.5" with my 6.5" clear ruler (waiting on the templates, just practicing with what I have! But, if you cut THOSE exact, when you sew it to the solid swatch, no matter how big the 2nd swatch is, the QST side is going to be less than 1/2 of a 2.5" square.

I circumvented the ease of just making a straight edge on the bottom of the QST part, then lining up and cutting out of the center. I've almost used up all the trial and error triangles though! :D

Y'all don't be afraid of small pieces - Think of it this way: smaller pieces just means shorter seams, and quicker done!!

Well you can try both and then see what you think. You can also go to my web site and practice the Boston Block before you tackle the quilt block for the sampler. It isn't as hard as it seems. That is the beauty of my method is that you get difficult looking blocks with easy piecing. You will be surprised how easy it is.

I had a friend who took my class in my home on making a coin purse and she could not quit marveling that she had actually made this little quilt block. She went home and made a bunch more coin purses and gave them as gifts to her family.
