Come along and join in and make a beautiful sampler quilt!

You will need a 2 1/2" template so if you don't have one just let me know. Send me your postal address by pm! PLEASE dont' post it here!!

I will be posting one quilt block per week. To give you an idea of what my quilt blocks are like - You can find the first Sampler Quilt Along here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1017

I use my cut down method which is where you cut fabric and sew it together and then cut out a square from the center. I call these units - "Blocks" I know not very original!

You can see my Blocks directions here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1020

---------------------------------------------------------

Ok This week I am going to use the Boston Blocks.

Here is the link for the Boston Block directions
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-38879-1.htm

If you have any questions just let me know!

This Quilt Block is named Ashley. You will see the quilt block and then you will see the layout of the blocks. Pay attention to where the colors go and how the blocks are turned.

If you change the values of the colors or put them in differant places than I did it will change the look of the quilt block.

So I hope this is an enjoyable journey for you all! And of course there is no time limit.

lovely block

Painiacs 10-14-2011 03:42 PM

Love it. Thanks for pattern!!

cjomomma 10-14-2011 08:26 PM

I will only follow along because as you know it can be hard for me to actually make the blocks with this busy home I live in. I can't resist seeing all the blocks you come up with.

marymc 10-15-2011 04:42 AM

How often do you post a new block? I will pm you address and give it a try. Do you give us an idea of fabric requirements?

I am also going to used planned colors for this one. Sounds fun.

klgreene 10-15-2011 01:06 PM

I did the 12" blocks last time, and doing the swap in 12" blocks so, I think this time I will do the 6" block. I just haven't decided on my color scheme yet.

Whatever you decide on will be beautiful just like the last one.

Wonderful block, and a great opportunity to try your cut-down method. Thanks, Rhonda! I look forward to the next blocks!

Hi there!
I don't get on the main board too much. I'm mostly in the PDAs trying to stay out of trouble. :-)

kwiltkrazy 10-17-2011 06:04 PM

Rhonda;
How many blocks are there in all?
Am I correct that there is a block a week? What are the average colors per block?

Yes there is a quilt block a week. As to how many that is yet to be determined.

Rhonda 10-17-2011 06:30 PM

There are no rules no colors decided. I provide the quilt block and you take it and do what you like with it. I hope people will share some ideas and get some feedback on how they are using their quilt blocks.

You can pick and choose which ones you like. There are no requirements to finish all of them and no deadlines. Just offering my designs for anyone who wants to play!

I do like to do these to keep my name out there and get people interested in learning my cut down method. So it is sort of an advertising opportunity for me. I want to share my shortcuts with everyone. As there are a lot of new quilters I thought it was time to do another event. This is a chance for me to reach new people and share what I do.

I'm a sucker for a good quilt along. Can't resist....

I wanted to try a block last night - so here it is. I didn't see a separate picture thread, so I hope this is the right place to post this. This is a 9 1/2 inch block - because that is the largest size I could do with the scraps I was using. I think I may do 6 1/2 inch blocks though when I do it "for real" with the templates so that I have a little more wiggle room for cutting back. Not sure though. Still thinking it over.

Anyway - thanks for looking! It was fun!

That turned out really well! I always love to see these designs done up in real fabrics!! Love your colors! Good contrast!
The contrast is one area some people are weaker on. The better and stronger the contrast the better my designs look in real life. IMHO LOL

I will start a picture thread for the Sampler.

klgreene 10-18-2011 01:56 PM

That's what I've been working on today.....contrast. I had gotten 5 sets of 5 FQ's. A purple, blue, green and yellow/orange and one set of the same colors in a small print. What I had originally planned was doing a block in one color, since it had 5 shades in each bundle. But I didn't like it. Not enoug contrast in the shades. So my blocks are going to be bright. Using I FQ from each little bundle. It's going to be so different than the first sampler. But I think it's going to be fun. So when my eyes undialate, I may be starting my block tonight. But tomorrow for sure.

So glad you posted Obsessed.... wonderful block.

CindyLuella 10-18-2011 06:16 PM

I think I'll make these up as individuals, turn them into potholder/trivets, and sell them at the local consignment shop if that's OK.

You can do whatever you like with them. I made somewhere around 900 hotpads over 12 years and that is what I did with my designs back then. Hotpads were my best seller at the local gift shop I sold to. I like an 8" finished hotpad and I made the quilt block 6 1/2" and added a border to make it 8 1/2" unfinished and 8" finished.

that is where I started designing. I wanted to stretch to have more better designs for my hotpads.

Here is my first weeks block. I'm making them in 6" this time. Mostly jewel tones. This will be fun, because I've been on a teal kick and before that it was burgany and greens. I think before I die, I will cover the spectum of all the colors. Katie

Nice block! Love the contrast with the background.

PokerDiva 10-19-2011 03:28 PM

Beautiful Katie. You are brave doing 6 inchers. I am going to do 18 inch blocks. I have finally decided on fabric and hopefully will finish it tomorrow. I think I have a plan. I hope it works out.

cjomomma 10-19-2011 03:58 PM

Katie it's beautiful! Your block makes me happy. I dont know if it's the color combination or what but I can't wait to see it as a quilt.

klgreene 10-19-2011 04:01 PM

Thanks, but how come I can't see the mistakes until it' in a picture. Maybe because I'm always sitting looking at them.

Obsessed 10-19-2011 04:05 PM

What mistakes? Looks great! I love the pink and blue together.

Rhonda 10-19-2011 04:37 PM

I posted a picture thread. Could you all post your pictures on that thread as well please? Thanks!!

This sounds like a lot of fun - if I can be that free minded. I'm pretty new to this and usually I need more direction, but you all made it sound like such fun and I love the blocks, so I'm gonna give it a try, got some catching up to do.
I'll PM you for a template.
Am I thinking right, if the template is 2 1/2", the block will be 12".
I love miniature, but know I could never do them myself.

If you could use a 1 1/2" template you can do these in miniature.
It really isn't that hard to do.

So, my first Rhonda block.--my week 1 block. I really enjoyed doing the block this way. Thought I'd practice before doing my Rhonda swap block and then on to week 2's block. The block looks better in person.

Thanks Rhonda for doing this.

klgreene 10-24-2011 03:44 PM

Nice job, and great contrast. Wasn't it fun! Looks like you are ready for the swap!!

Looks terrific!! Your points and joins are right on. I'm glad you enjoyed the process!

smcfadden 10-24-2011 04:38 PM

It looks pretty good in the pic!

CindyLuella 10-24-2011 05:18 PM

My mis-cut pieces turned into two Christmas potholders. I don't even have a finished block to show for my efforts. But it did spur me on to do 3 more Christmas potholders with the scraps!

mimistutz 10-25-2011 04:20 AM

Your block is beautiful. It never ceases to amaze me how the same pattern looks so different with just a change of color and placement and they all are great.

I didn't get on here till the second week and just got my fabric for the first block, so I'm a little behind. Had to have DH decide which of the 5 or so pieces would go where. I fussed over it for hours and he decided in 5 minutes or less. Now just waiting for the template to come in the mail and I'll be on the way.
