Mine is still just a "top". I liked one similar shown in one of the "Quilt Obsession" books. I ordered similar fabric of Kaffe Fassett's for it.It is showing sideways don't know why. I am thinking of changing the border to a piano key border using all of the different fabrics.
Uh Oh, now I am feeling guilty. Must finish my spiker blocks so they can become a quilt.
nygal... very nice. I am making three more to make the quilt larger. Another reason, I left the corner fabric in AZ. No fabric like it in my area, so will make it larger and puta couple diff boarders on it. Something is wrong with my down loading so cant show the blocks. I will try and fix it soon! LOL
Nygal, love your quilt. All my blocks are done but not put together yet. Maybe I should get a move on.
Great job, NYGal. I had my almost done with the pieced border along side it and hated it. Took it apart and now I have to figure out what borders to use. I love your background fabric--it ties it all together and lets the blocks shine.
Thank you ladies, Yes, janRN the fabric I used of Kaffe Fassett's does have all of the colors that I used in my fabric. It looks better up close. I think I WILL make the border I have on it much smaller and add a piano key border of all the batiks that I used in the blocks. I think that will give it some PUNCH. ...I hope!
Great Job and I think piano key border will look nice. I need to get busy and get mine done. These are a lot of fun and challenging to make. They have made me not afraid to do PP anymore. Thank you to all of you that help us new one learn to PP.
Very pretty NYGAL. I'm soooo far behind. I've downloaded all of them but have only made 5 of the blocks so far. Must get back to it.

Beautiful quilt top nygal
Here is mine, taken after I finished the last blocks and put the borders on, I have since basted it and done a lot of SID and now just need to tackle the FMQ. I thoroughly enjoyed making these blocks, and love the finished quilt. |
Mirabelle, your quilt is stunning!! It is really beautiful. I love that border fabric too!!
Well done Mirabelle. I like how you blocks appear to be floating.
Well done Mirabele!! With the addition of the sashing and the corner stones your blocks float! The borders are great as well!
Love it, Mirab! That background fabric and matching border fabric are a nice finishing touch. I agree that these blocks were a lot of fun and have been searching the internet for something similar.
That border fabric is just stunning Mirabelle! I love how you put your quilt together. I am so far behind on these blocks, I don't know if I will ever be finished!
I like your quilt Great Job
Karen ... Love it
Thank you everyone. I have started the FMQ, 3 blocks down and 9 to go so hope to have it finished in the next week or so. Slow going with all those seams, I found it quicker to free motion the ditch work, then I don't have to turn the quilt top.
Will post a pic when it is completely finished. |
nygal - gorgeous. The sashing fabric makes the blocks really pop.
mirabelle - beautiful. I love the border fabric. The whole thing made me think Spring. |
I am back in the saddle again, with the optic nerve decreasing in its swollen state, and hoping that action continues...at least I am not blind...yet.
I did take the Quilt Bus Tour and seen Quilting on the Square Quilt Shop. Mary, the one who designed the SYEs, said it would be retired from their site in Mid May...so if you lack any of the patterns, please download and save for when you might what to finish. And sign up for their newsletter which is starting the beginning of paper piecing pieces then. Mary was 'twisting' best friend's arm to start the simple pp with them then...and showing her their blocks and patterns that they would use. "But," said my bf, "that's pp!", "yes," said Mary, "that's what we do here!" Bf is a hand quilter and her expression was priceless. LOL. The trip was two days, four states, and wonderful FART with lots of laughter. |

It's finished.
I SID every seam within the block, and as I didn't want a lot of starts and finishes and didn't want to turn the quilt, I free motioned the SID, a few wiggly lines but it went a lot faster. I started quilting the background of the blocks but didn't like it so reverse sewed and left the background blank. I think it works as the block stand out which it what I wanted. I then quilted a simple feather in the setting triangles and a cross hatch in the sashing, again I did the cross hatch free motion. Piano keys in the final 2 borders just framed the whole quilt. I am definitely keeping this one. |
Mirabelle - that is just so beautiful! I love what you did on the quilting. Great finish!
Congrats, Mirab--that is amazing. I love how it all came together with the background & border fabrics. Your quilting enhances the designs. Great job!!
Proud of Mirabelle and JanRN for doing justice to Mary's designs of the SYE patterns from Quilting on the Square...and finishing up the quilt. Mine did not have one direction and still do not know what direction it will take in the end...mats, table runner or quilt...undecided at this time. Proud of all of you who cross that finish line, finishing all the designed SYE patterns that you choose to do. Big drum roll for each of you, a job well done. As for the rest of us, we may struggle onward as we can...and hope to cross that finish line.....later. Maybe. Whatever. Who can come up with the best excuse??? Mmmm....maybe going blind...from optic nerve swelling up like mine is doing...but I am still seeing distances fine...still on steroids, following drs orders hoping and praying I can finish most projects in the next ten years...or so.
Mirabelle, gorgeous! I'm happy you're going to keep this one for yourself :)
I don't need an excuse for not finishing the blocks. I just decided I won't. |
All your quilts are beautiful. I am inspired. I just found this quilt a few minutes ago and downloaded the patterns. This will be my challenge quilt for this winter. I can only hope mine turns out half as nice as theses. Great job ladies, fantastic quilts!
Glory be, my optic nerve has decreased in size and I am seeing again in the right eye. Blessed be. Prayers have been answered, I am back on kitchen duties and very happy about it. Four SYE blocks just might be in line to finish!! Have a Good Day, everyone.

Ta da!! Just finished today. I really loved doing these blocks. Thank you all for the help and encouragement given along the way. I wanted to use a pieced, multicolored border but it made this wall hanging 2" too big for the wall space in my living room. I did minimal quilting, wanted the blocks to be the focus. Thanks for looking.

Great job, JanRN. Good to see both you and Mirabelle has done a wonderful job to inspire the rest of us. Since QB quilt buddy is coming every two weeks to help out for several hours, I just might get to finish some planned quilts. '
Quilting on the Square have really wonderful folks to do business with, too. I had notified them that I had ruined DJ batiks A one and A two and could not load from their newsletter the current project...they included all that in this month's DJ at no charge. That is what I call 'beyond' expectations. They are a 'good' neighbor and source to work with, as close as the phone or computer. |
Beautiful, Jan! I need to get my head together and tackle the problem with one of the blocks being too big and have a finish!
JanNR Like your quilt. Great job. I have 6 done need to get back work on the others just been to busy. But I'll get them done someday. I have enjoyed learning PP. Thanks to all that has help me learn it.

Here is my quilt top changed. I added the sort of piano key border using all of the fabrics. I like it much better now.
