Thinking about the Pony Club and looking at the blocks on Yahoo site. I don't have novelty fabrics so when I was on a Road Trip the other day I decided to at least get a FQ with Ponies on it. Found one. When we got back my friends looked at my Pony fabric and started laughing----they weren't ponies: they're donkeys!!!!! Did I mention I'm a city girl and have never been close to a horse??? Yes, ladies, Jan's making a FW donkey club quilt!!!!

Jan, you are so funny! But donkeys are cute, aren't they?

Honchey 11-12-2011 09:13 AM

Ok Jeanie, How do I change the color? the only adjustments I can make so far are the font and size. Jan..you are too funny! I told one of the customers at work that I'm collecting fabric for the PCQ and she brought me some horsey fabric to use. All of you have been busy here. I haven't done much replying just some lurking...I'm not really crazy about the new format...I used to be anxious to get on here first thing in the a.m....now not so much. i put some binding up for sale and it takes 2 day for them to clear the content? and any response I want to make to the content takes 2 days...so if the post is only good for 7 days it will go to archives before anything can be viewed by others concerning my responses??? screwy!!! This needs improvement.

Honchey 11-12-2011 09:16 AM

 I found it!

Honchey 11-12-2011 09:18 AM

How do I keep all these changes permanent until I want to change it?

Honchey 11-12-2011 09:37 AM

Quilte., Do all the easy blocks and you'll be further along...if that helps!!!

Anne, you can change the length of posting time by going to Settings, General Settings - scroll down to Thread Display Options and Change Default Thread Age from "default" to whatever you want. I really have not figured out what the "default" is, does anyone know??

I spent many hours the first several days this changed on the Board trying to find things. It just takes a while. Having gone through many computer program changes when I "worked", I've found that it all just takes getting use to. I'm sure we will all find our way around soon!

QuiltingNinaSue 11-12-2011 01:39 PM

Interesting reading, catching up on the latest on the Pony project. I did not think I would join because of so many works in progress, but a quilting friend bought me the book, so guess I will sign up for another round with all of you I was with in the FWS. This new "look" challenges me; I have yet to figure out how to post pictures...it makes me feel so stupid. Go...where? what? how?

I do have western material stash and novelty, so here I am coming again, with different looking blocks. I had several poines as a child, so I can relate to the subject. Rode poines, and later horses...in parades, rodeos, etc.

Thanks Honchey .... actually what I've been doing is trying to stay in order, but then when I'm short on time, but want to make one ... or the brain and fingers just aren't in gear for a challenge ... I skip on ahead til I find something that's kinda easy-peasy!! Don't want to do too many of those too soon ... or I'll not want to do the tricky ones! In all honesty, I enjoy the challenge they present, just that sometimes I am not "with it" enough!!! :) Watch the general FWS thread after #111 for notices when I do post, being that we've all lost our markers!

Oh, so glad your are joining us again QNS! I always look forward to seeing your blocks and comments. We will all have fun.

I get the feeling that the default is forever and ever as there's been some really old threads pop back up. However the way I was reading that part, I was thinking they were just going to send us the auto-notice-emails for the time we selected. Yes? No? .... For the threads I want to follows (eg. FWS, and soon PC) I want them forever and ever, but once I've looked at a thread and am not interested, I don't want to see it again tmro, or even today!

I won't complain about the new system, as I know to progress there has to be changes ...... but I will honestly say that I really really really miss the listing of all threads that we hadn't reviewed, like we used to have!!

Yeehaaaaaaaawwww!!
This is going to have so much more meaning to you, with your background.
Me? I hesitated for sometime about the Pony Club, as horses weren't part of my past! I was getting hooked on FWS when I had to decided and am SO envious of you ladies who did it together ..... so I didn't want to miss out on PC! My stash abounds, and I found that one fabric which I'm going to coordinate all the rest with.

I made the block and yes, Y seams. I leave the foundation on the back and sew on the lines. That makes it a lot easier. Don't sew into the 1/4" seams!

QuiltE 11-12-2011 02:44 PM

Pretty Pretty Pretty!
You ladies are going to have your blocks done before we even start! :)

Oh Wow Anael, that is just a beautiful block! I love your fabric choice as well as your fussy cut center.

Anael 11-12-2011 02:53 PM

Thank you :D
And no, I won't have my blocks finished before you start here. I am a member of the Yahoo group but don't follow the BOW because I don't have any horse fabric yet so I made some blocks that don't need horses (or donkeys LOL).

QuiltE 11-12-2011 03:06 PM

I think we're all going to have to include a donkey, just for Jan!

....... and a Jersey for me, a Guernsey for OK and .......!!!!!!!!!!! :)

:D Oh Yeah QuiltE - a donkey in all our quilts. Plus I have some other farm yard animal prints I'm going to add to mine too. I think that will make it so much more interesting and fun!

Oh you Guys!!! This is what I miss! All the bantering back and forth! We're going to have to ask Jan for some of her Donkey Fabric or find out the Manufacturer so we can get some. I have a signed book and haven't even opened it... I'll be too tempted to start and then won't be able to finish my current projects. Honchey

janRN 11-12-2011 06:09 PM

Thank you guys for making me feel like less of a jackass (get it?) for thinking the donkeys were horses!! I've so missed all the fun we had with FWS.

Time for the fabric exchange!! :)

Evie 11-14-2011 08:31 AM

I think donkeys are cute. I don't have any "horse-y" fabrics, so I think I'm going with a farm theme starting with a layer cake someone gave me. Now I just have to get more fabric to match/coordinate and I'm set to go. I'm looking forward to our next journey, even though I haven't finished the FWS. :(

Anael 11-14-2011 08:34 AM

I still have to finish my Sylvia Bridal Sampler and not to mention Dear Jane. But it's nice to make 8" blocks for a change!

For those having troubles with Y seams I made a tut. In the pictures you can see the foundation paper is left on the back of the pieces. You sew exactly on the seamline and NOT into the 1/4" seam. Fold the edges together and sew, again not into the 1/4 "seam. Remove the paper, iron and you're done :D

janRN 11-16-2011 05:23 AM

Thanks, Anael. I've been following your progress on Yahoo--your blocks are beautiful. I'm going to try your method for Y seams. I've been practicing them, got the best results doing them by hand. This looks easier and you certainly get accurate points. Seeing the pics helps. I'll let you know how I do!

Anael 11-16-2011 05:28 AM

Thanks Jan for your compliments on my blocks :D I hope you're doing ok with the Y seams!

QuiltE 11-16-2011 07:04 AM

When I did the Candlequilter Star, for me the tricky part was working with the non-flat unit when I went to the machine, as we're so used to everything laying nice and flat. On the plus side, the paper helps hold everything in place .... and gotta love the lines to follow. And then to make sure that everything is fully stitched without a little hole at the Y.

Anael ... we really do need to see the finished block from the front!!! Oh pleeeeeeeease? And its friends, too!!!

PC Stash Update .... no I don't need more!! I "had" to go to a quilt store yesterday (being that it was basically around the corner when I got my car winter serviced). And guess what? Some FQs pleaded to come home with me ... a cute chicken fabric, some Holsteins, and a garden type fabric, that all coordinate with my main fabric. This is going to be such a change for me ... working with novelty fabrics!

So yes, Anael, please get us all excited with a show and tell of your blocks ... and perhaps you'll recruit some others!

It's a good thing I don't have a LQS otherwise I'dd be broke before I know it. The FQs here are very expensive and so is the fabric by the yard. I have to pay over $ 4.00 for 1 FQ!
I have to make a Paint thingy for the Pony blocks and I'm not too familiar with Paint but I'll give it a try. Here's the block with Y seams.

Here are the first 9 blocks. The Apple Tree block (top right) is different from the one in the book but I liked this one better.

QuiltE 11-16-2011 07:27 AM

Yahoooooooooooooo!!! (and that's not for the website, but Cowgirl Talk!!)
Awesome ..... and has me even more keen to get a move on with my FWS before we start the PC!

FQs are the same price here, .... yesterdays were the same, $3.99 each or 3 for $10. No savings vs. buying yardage if you're just buying one or two, just the convenience of a FQ vs. a long narrow strip. Most places run about the same price, sometimes a little less. Often for Shop Hops LQS' will have a bit FQ special price. I have a HUGE stash and have been trying really hard NOT to add to it!! Though being that I don't really have novelties, and have decided to use more of them in the PC, I've been gathering more. And too, many will be usable in an Eye Spy that I want to do next year. My stash will provide the solids, or read-like-solids, easy enough.

And now my American friends, whenever you whine about your fabric prices, think of Anael et Moi! :)

Here's the rest of the blocks. I hope you like them :D

Honchey 11-16-2011 08:12 AM

Anael, Your blocks are just beautiful! Please post them again when we start in January. Anne

QuiltE 11-16-2011 08:15 AM

OMG ... you really are moving along, Anael! Beautiful and more ... and talk about building anticipation to start PC and inspiring me to finish FWS!

And your clover/shamrock fabric just reminded me of some that I have and should find ... might include it in my FWS quilt not and stash for the PC too! :)

Anael 11-16-2011 08:19 AM

Thank you ladies :D
They're fun to do and not that tiny so it's a relief after doing DJ and Sylvia blocks! I might have done a few more by the time we start in January ;)

janRN 11-16-2011 08:51 AM

Those are beautiful. Love the fabrics you used-so colorful and appropriate for the quilt. What an inspiration--I can't wait for January now!! Thanks for the pics-I was looking at the thumbnail size pics on Yahoo (not the cowboy yell, QE)site; much better. Wow!
