Default Rhonda's Second Sampler Quilt Along - Week 16 - Sharona

This week we are using Drunkard's Path blocks

So as usual it uses my cut down method which I think makes your blocks more accurate and you have better control of the size as you go.
Just make sure to measure each time you complete a step.
It will save a lot of frustration when you are done.

Here are the directions to making Drunkard's Path my way
http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...-t63180-3.html

To make this quilt block into a 12 1/2" unfinished size you will need a 2 1/2" template.

You can take a look at the layout picture to see what Blocks you need and where to put the colors. If you change the color arrangement you will get a differant look from mine.

So try it out and see what you can make with this design! Have fun!

If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. I'll be more than happy to help.

If you need templates let me know. I will need your postal address and PLEASE send it by pm or email not on the open board. The templates are FREE no fees or postage needed.

Here is this week's Quilt Block - Sharona

I like this one, I've come to love te drunkards path. Two reasons, one, I just love the look, and two I can work on it and watch tv with my dh, which we don't tend to do alot, and should do more. But I may have to wait a couple days, because I sewed right through the tip of my finger. Not bad, but really sore right now.

Rhonda: Question for you. I have the star block pattern. I need to make a 9" finished star block. With my measurements, I come up with a 2.75" template to be used, is this correct? Not sure. I would make 16 pieced blocks which will measure 11' then when assemble comes to 9.5" unfinished. Could you let me know your expertise? i know this is a different page than that, but was having a hard time finding the right thread to open.

Yes you are right. 2 3/4 + 2 3/4+ 4 6/4 so then you would have 4 plus 4/4ths and 2/4ths or in other words 5 1/2 so drop the 1/2 for seam allowances and you get two blocks would be 5" sewn. so 2 sets of 5 is 10 drop the 1/2" for seam allowances gives you 9 1/2".

I just added the explanation in case anyone else would like to see how you get to the 9 1/2"

Also when I am in doubt I cut out blocks of copy paper and use it as fabric. YOu can sew them and iron them just like fabric. You do have to be careful you don't pull on them too hard tho as the seaming will create a perforation and pulling can cause them to come apart. But you can preview sizes this way and see exactly how it will turn out without wasting any fabric.
