My son is a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. It is a program funded by the Air Force. What an opportunity for young people to experience. He is learning how to fly at age 13 and could actually have his pilots license by the time he graduates high school. It gives him the opportunity to experience the military way but can open many, many doors for him. I will be joining in the spring. They are considered the first responders in emergency situations. My specialty will be in Search and Rescue, learning how to use GPS systems and locating downed aircraft, missing persons, etc. I will learn how to observe the locations from the air craft and scan the area for different situations. It is such a cool program for almost nothing/yr. It is a volunteer program for the most part. You have to be at least 12 yrs old to join that's it. I know your Granddaughter will learn and experience so much with the Air Force. I am excited for her.
