Default babylock 5260 serger

Hi Everyone, I am new and do not know if this is the correct place to post. I have a Babylock 5260 Serger and have some qustions. On the left side behind a door there is a red button and a dial, does anyone know what this is it? Also, my material will not pull through on the serger, I dont kow if on the older machines if you can rise the feed dogs. Thanks for any help.

The red knob adjusts the stitch length. Loosen the knob, then slide it to lengthen the stitch. It should be between 2 1/2 -- 3 1/2 for most applications. There's a presser foot tension on top, above the needle area. If the presser foot lever is loose when you lift it, that can be tightened. It looks like a metal circle with a screwdriver slot.

Good Luck to You!

Thank you. I am new at sewing and I have never used a serger in my life, this girl is vintage, but she seems like a workhorse. Do you know if the needle threads go straight back from the needle and the lower threads go to the left side after all is threaded and I am ready to serge. Thanks again. The fabric just stays in place and the needles just keeps coming down with the thread, it is just making a nest. The feed dogs look like they are down.

I usually hold my threads to the left side when starting.

We don't lower the feed dogs on a serger. If the feed dogs don't come up at all, there is likely something seriously wrong with the machine. Remove the presser foot and watch what happens.
