Bees, wasps, and yellow jackets interfering with hummingbirds
Ok, you folks are all a wealth of information so I need your help. I have two hummingbird feeders that have been the food source for about 10 hummingbirds. Recently, the feeders have been taken over by bees, wasps and other sweet seeking insects. This has all interfered with the hummingbirds enjoyment. The birds fly near the feeder ready to eat but immediately fly away to a near by branch waiting and waiting then fly off. How do I discourage these flying bullies?
Thanks

This very topic was just discussed recently. Maybe you can get some help from what others said about it. You might try to find some bee guards for your feeders.

I use a pheromone product from Canada. No poisons. The trouble with yellow wasp guards is that bees & wasps are attracted to yellow!
Here is my solution also, not perfect but sure cuts down the attraction! Useful sewing notion and super glue!

My main problem is yellow jackets and I use a bee catcher hanging next to my feeder to trap them. If I see honey bees I take a small bowl and put some of the sugar water in it with a small sponge in the center and they go to that as it is much better for them to feed than the bird feeder. Butterfly's love that also.

Kitsie, that is interesting. I did not know wasps and bees were attracted to yellow. I do know that I don't have much trouble with them, but the squirrels have chewed all the yellow bee guards off my hummer feeders. Wasp and bee problem solved.
