Oh my, how I remember pitting cherries. I was pregnant with my first child. How I hated pitting cherries. I think I wishes the tree would die, and it did. I feel bad, well not that bad. lol

My little dog LOVED to eat blackberries off the bush when he was a puppy. Then one day, a large copperhead was under the bush waiting for a bird to eat. He got little puppy right on the nose! $450 of emergency vet bills later, the dog hates blackberries and won't go near them. Just telling you to keep an eye on your dogs when picking berries. (But they are my absolute favorite treat.)

We were on vacation in Northern MN one year. We'd heard bears love the berries and to beware. As my mother and I stood in the thick of the bushes picking we heard loud snorts and chashing through the bushes. We stood frozen not sure which way it was coming from. We both jumped out of our skins as a large black lab ran past-

We were in Texas one year out at Lake Sam Rayburn, I think ,with my sister and brother in law. Sister in law and I went to town and on the way home took a side road , as I am an avid huckleberry picker of course I was watching the roadside and saw some blackberrie so had to pick them. Anyhow BIL said to me you are going to get tatooed. He meant by a snake but my husband is from Texas so was well aware of the snakes so was careful. Would rather pick huckleberries here in Montana becAuse all I have to watch for is black beArs, grizzlies and cougars. I am 71 and am still going out in the mountains picking berries. Blackberries are wonderful to eat though.

Do those of you who make blackberry pies use a sweet dough for the crust? Those are popular in this area.

No blackberries where I live now. I miss them!!!!! A blackberry picking day with my kids was an annual event when I lived in BC. We loved blackberry jelly, (less seeds than jam). Syrup is good too. Someone mentioned cobbler...try the berries mixed with peaches in a cobbler. OMG..now I am craving!!!! LOL

One way to enjoy fresh berries is to mix with Cool Whip and serve on a slice of Angel food cake . Even diabetics can eat this., We enjoy them on our cereal, and in homemade icecream.Enjoy.
