I live in Southern California, it was 107 in my backyard yesterday, today they are predicting hotter..... I slept last night with the AC running all night and I did nothing but toss and turn all night...
A Flex Alert has been called, asking us all to reduce our electricity useage....and I am more than willing to do my part.....So I will make the sacrifice and not run the vacuum cleaner, I will not do any laundry, I will not run the dishwasher (just let them stack up or switch to paper plates)...instead of opening my refrigerator I will get all my ice from the door dispenser.......I will even go so far as not to cook and heat up the kitchen (pizza delivery tonight)....but I kinda will draw the line at that I will not un-plug my computer, I will not un-plug my sewing machine, I may give my iron a break, but I will not turn my thermostat up to 78....all else fails, I will go shopping at my local quilt store for the afternoon...... And that is my story and I am sticking to it.....
It really is too hot to sew, quilt or even think....lots of TV today and every quilting program on my DVR will be reviewed again.....

What a good citizen you are... no wasting electricity with crazy things like the sweeper... LOL! I love it! I guess we sent you our heat because yesterday it was 70 something here! I slept with the windows open for the first time in forever! It was sheer bliss! Hey, haven't you guys had a series of small quakes, too? What's up with that? That's yet another reason not to clean... moving stuff around in your house might make the plates under the earth shift & cause real problems... LOL!

Where I lived in California they did roving power blackouts. The power was automatically cut off for a certain period of time whether you wanted it or not==except if you were in the zone with a big hospital.

They haven't quite gotten to that YET....the NEWEST thing is this Power Flex Alert, they said on the news last night IF not enough people cut back then it may go into rolling 'brown outs'....I have a devise on my air conditioning unit that the Edison company can turn off just my air during a 'crisis'....In the 10 years I have lived here it has never come to that but....you never know, it is 10:30 am and all but 100 outside.....but where I live is all but desert.....so its gets hot 110 and cold 28...... inbetween it is beautiful...

I've had the same device here in IL for the past 10 or so years; it saves me $10/mo. on my bill during June, July, Aug. It's never been cut off. Last mo. I received an automated call from ComEd telling me a/c would be shut off for 3-4 hrs. It never happened.

I really like your "good citizen approach"! And I agree... it's too hot here in MS to do anything but stay in AC, sit and play on computer and drink lots of Diet Coke!!

I think it's admirable of you to soldier through it just like you're doing! At least your sense of humor hasn't been fried. May I suggest frozen umbrella drinks too with a little rum just for medicinal purposes? The northeast has been dealing with humid, awful weather too, in the 90's. Can't imagine what you are experiencing. I'm so looking forward to a crisp fall day and candy corn!

Here the heat isn't horrible today, but I'm watching the news/weather where the screen is covered with red and orange blotches an area just 30 minutes north of us, and 60 70 MPH wind gusts....oops there goes the satellite...

Oh, good back again!...... for now.

I remember one Christmas day in Miami when it was unusually cold and Florida Power did a rolling three hour power cut without telling anyone. Many people had Christmas dinner in the oven and no warning of what was going on. Opposite weather conditions, but can you imagine having your dinner ruined and no idea if and when power would come back on?

You are such a good citizen to make those sacrifices to conserve energy. I agree that I would not turn the AC temp up to 78. If I did that, I'd be a big ole puddle!
