I lived through the same thing. But our cat had PICA disorder and would eat ANYTHING. He didn't settle for thread. He ate absolutely anything off the floor or table that would fit in his mouth. We paid $1,500 for a surgery to fix his stomach and bowel and the doctor told us with his "problem" he should really be on some sort of cat prozac for life...and that he'd likely do it again. 6 mos. later he ate something again that caused a blockage and we had to put him down. The vet pulled all sorts of crazy things out of him. It was really sad and we felt terrible:

So sorry for your lose. pets have a special place in our hearts.

I noticed my cat had a string in his mouth. I pulled it gently until it came out of his stomach. It was a long piece. The vet said he didn't see any damage. I make sure no thread is out for him to get to now. It's been over 7 years so I guess I'm doing a good job.

so sorry about your cat :( and a good reminder to all of us to be careful how we store our thread...and to put it away when we are not sewing at our machines...cats love to play with our sewing stuff...but it isn't good for them to do as what happened to your cat can happen...again, so sorry.

I'm so sorry about your little friend. Thank you for warning us about what happened. My two cats are forever in my sewing room with me so I'll have to make sure they don't have a chance to get into any thread.

Thank you all so much for your messages of sympathy. I miss her so much as she was such a joy but she was also one of those cats that ate everything that wasn't nailed down. Not that she didn't get enough cat food, there was always food out for her. Her cat companion misses her too. She goes around the house looking in all the hiding places and cries. I feel so sorry for her. Just please be careful of your beloved pets around the sewing room. God Bless you greatly.

I am so sorry for your loss. I to have a cat that will eat anything. She does though up alot of times. I guess I am lucky she has not got anything that requires surgeries.
I know when I was a kid; I had a cat that liked my yarn and one day (not knowing what I should do) I pull the string out and was amazed it was about 4 ft long. Don't remember what happened to the cat after that, it was a long time ago.

cats are like babies and you really have to watch them.
i have three cats and they don't come into my sewing room, even though they would love to. mamma has to be tough!!
