My DH and I were at a restaurant, and this young couple were both on their cell phones, and not talking to each other.
Then there was and old couple texting each other, which turned out they couldn't hear each other in a crowded restaurant. Young couples don't know how to talk to each other face to face they've been on phones or computers all their lives. Sad

Wow, that's sad! I know for myself, I'm too tired to do anything once I get into bed. My head touches the pillow and I'm out! I leave my phone and Kindle in the kitchen too.

DH & I average together about 300 minutes every 60 days on our phone. Most of those minutes are for calls to places like Dr. offices or Insurance Co. or repair shops & there is more "hold" time during those calls than actual talking. Call me a minimalist when it comes to the phone. We don't have a "smart phone"...just the little old flip phone which I love because it's small & the screen is protected when it's flipped down.

We have a flip phone too. Last thing I see before I am off to dreamland is my husband's face. We have conversations throughout the day. Today I spent 20 minutes talking to a lady in the produce aisle about everyday lives and how much we had in common. When we parted we both said how much we enjoyed ourselves.

my service sends me a text each month with minutes of use. I average under 5 minutes a month I absolutely hate talking on the phone.

edited to add: the last two times there was a wait time I was offered the option to leave my number and I'd be called back in order of where I was currently in the queue. Both times I had a return call within 5-10 minutes.

Before retirement my phone was an extension of my hand. No more! I spend time looking for it now and it is usually in the bottom of my Purse! I still have a landline and there is an extension in my bedroom in case of an emergency but my cellphone, iPad and Kendall are left I the kitchen at night. I don’t have a TV in my bedroom either and I sleep very well.

I had a daughter who had a phone growing out of her ear. She was addicted to one as soon as she became a teenager. We had to establish ground rules for her--i/e., how long she could talk to one person, when she was allowed to use the phone, etc. The kids were very compliant, though, as I taught most of them in Jr. High School.

I am not a person that has my cell phone attached at the hip. I am more often leaving it behind when I go out. Last night around midnight I got a text message from a fellow quilter and left it, being annoyed, at the late time of the text, until I got up this morning. I am of the thought that if you need to contact me after 9:00 pm, you had better be in the hospital, an accident or dead! I get upset with my sister that text when she is driving! A big problem that is. I agree that texting has taken the personal touch out of communicating. Saying a persons name into a phone and talking in person is much healthier than texting. The closest I ever came to texting was as a kid passing notes in class from one person to another and that ended at the end of the school day. Not into the middle of the night.
