I think the only way knitting a sweater for one's boyfriend would be bad would be if a) he didn't like the sweater, or b) the sweater didn't look good on him

Maybe she's a bad knitter and the guys were too emberassed to wear the sweaters. lol

Nope, never heard of it either. I knitted Pat two sweaters but they were too warm and he didn't wear them....but we are still married.

Thank you for all the great answers! I have several knitter friends who swear by that superstition but I had no idea there was an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to it. People can be goofy (myself included)!

Ha! I made a blue oxford dress shirt (with white collar) for my husband back in the 80's - with two left sleeves! He still loves me!

Well I knitted a sweater for a boyfriend 50 years ago and we broke up shortly after. Do you think the fact the sleeves on it were down to his knees had anything to do with it? :-)

Naw....don't believe in such stuff....isn't the old story about making a baby the 'wondering foot' quilt that he'll leave and never return home:)But, if you need an excuse not to stop making quilts to make him a shirt....I'd say 'oh yea! That is so true!!'....always go for the quilt direction:)LOL Skeat
