I'm thinking of doing a cross stitch where I would want to use a black base fabric... I can't think of the correct term for the cross stitch fabric, but it's the Aida brand that JoAnns sells. I've always worked with light ones (white, off white, baby blue) and I'm wondering if the black will be harder to work with and harder to see the holes on. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks

Depends on your eyesight and the time of day. A good "daylight" lamp would be necessary for me.

The trick to using dark Aida cloth is to put something white in the background, I used a white pillow case laying on my lap. This makes the whole show up better.

I did an angel on black aida. It was a little harder to see but I had a nice light one next to me when I worked on it so it wasn't so hard.

Great trick, wish I'd had this trick when I did one a while back.:)

I used to sit (facing a window/door) where the light from a window/door was to the back of my work when I worked on black/dark cloth ..made the holes so easy to see. HTH~

I did this one with black Aida- it was 14 ct I believe. Sorry for the bad photo.
I think the count matters a lot with black.
It was fun to make :)
    Yes, you need good light!

Black is harder to see the holes. I recommend really good lighting, having something white underneath and if you can get a little bit of light shining up from underneath that might help as well

Wear light colored pants, or spread a white cloth across under the dark aida (not a brand, but the fabric type). This will reflect the light and help make the holes visible.

I have found that a light box is really a great help in seeing the holes. good luck with the black
