Red face Cuddly baby bear

As a few have asked me for the pattern of the cuddly bears I've posted recently, instead of posting them by mail individually, here are the pictures and the instructions.

The body is cut out on fabric, as you can see it's placed on the fold of the fabric and you cut it out twice. The head is cut out twice on terry toweling fabric. The same feet and arms are also cut out on terry toweling fabric but you cut 4 pieces each. The ear gets cut out twice in terry toweling and twice in the same fabric as the body.

You have to add 1/4" on the pattern for seams and I've added 1/2" or even a bit more on the places where the head, arms, feet and ears get sewn onto the body.

Firstly you sew a small seam of 1/4" on the top of the body where the head goes in. Then you turn the 2 body parts right sides together and sew them together making sure you leave an opening for the arms, feet and head. Then you sew the arms and feet together in pairs, leaving the opening to push the stuffing in. Stuff them and before you sew them onto the body (the body is still inside out) make a seam on the bottom where the opening was in the arms and feet, I find it holds together better when you sew them onto the body. Then sew them onto the body. Turn the body right side out.

Now to the head, you sew the ears together in pairs, again leaving the opening for the stuffing. When you stuffed them, again make a seam on the bottom to hold together. Turn the terry toweling of the head right sides together and sew together leaving again the opening for the ears. Then sew on the ears on. Before stuffing the head I usually sew on the buttons for the eyes (I find you can sew them on a lot safer) and embroider on the nose. Then I stuff the head, again sewing close the opening. Then I stuff the head into the opening on the body and fasten it by sewing on by hand. Then some lace collar can be added and a ribbon to hide the seam.

And voilą!!! Good luck with your teddies and I hope to see some soon "dancing" around on the board!!!

P.S. Sorry, the pattern is upside down.... but just print it out a couple of times on an A4 page and you can cut out the pieces.

Thanks so very much for this bear pattern. It looks easy to make. We make a few for the police to give to at risk children when they pick them up. It always seems to go better with a bear to care for.

Your bears are so darn cute! Thanks for posting the pattern. Bet there will be a lot of bears being made in the near future. See what you started? But it's a good thing!
