I usually use "delivery confirmation" when I send a package.
It costs $0.80 and can be obtained with Priority Mail and a Package - if the package is large enough!
I wanted to mail a 10x13 envelope that had a nicely folded piece of fabric in it that was nice and flat - and approximately 1/4 inch thick - and was told that if I wanted to get the "Delivery Confirmation" on that envelope, it had to go via Priority Mail! It wasn't a "package" because it wasn't thick enough.
So I opened the envelope, folded the fabric inside, and the Post Office clerk retaped the cut end. THEN I could get the "Delivery Confirmation" service and still send it via First Class mail.
??????????????

I am so lucky to live in a small town. The Postmaster is the only one in the office and she always helps ship the cheapest way. Especially since I send things to others to share adn do block swaps. Good idea for a delivery confirmation.

I print my own labels at home with DC for 19 cents thru Paypal shipping. I ship my quilt blocks everyday and they are flat. I learned a trick. Put a few packing peanuts in the package. It thickens the package and doesn't add any weight to it.

that's interesting, in PA, delivery confirmation costs 70cents--maybe it depended on where it was going??? i know little about shipping since i don't do it that often. i can't believe how expensive it is! wow

I like the idea of adding the packing peanuts. I'll have to give that a try. I've used a bubble envelope before and stuck a stiff piece of cardboard inside to make it rigid so I could ship it as a First Class parcel rather than an envelope. I think the "rules" are the package has to be either thicker than 1/4" (not a scant 1/4" ), or rigid to qualify as a parcel. I suppose it is a hassle for the mail delivery person to have to scan the delivery confirmation label but I say just let us pay the extra 80 cents if we want to get delivery confirmation on something we send....sheeeessshhhh!
Oh and one more bit of info, if you print your own Priority Mail Labels from the USPS website on your computer, you get Delivery Confirmation for free (plus a reduced charge on the mailing rate).

If you use "click and ship" and want to send "priority" there is no extra charge. Last week I shipped 3 Quilts for Kids via a large flat rate box and since I paid by cc online I printed the label at home and added the delivery confirmation and there was no extra charge!!
