The wording on that last one is a little funny. What they mean is that the German word "gift" means "poison". If someone translates the English word "gift" into the German word "gift" they've made a rather startling mistake.

Didn't Lawrence Welk have the nicest face? My Gram loved watching him and of course I thought it was a stupid show but now I realize how interesting a guy he was
EDit- I didn't realize others thought he was Polish too!
He certainly brought joy to so many.
