Ive had long hair (past mid back) most of my life and Im 62 now. I had it short when I was young cus thats what mom wanted - it got permed, looked crappy and had to be dealt w/ each day! Long ( the hippy 60s worked out well for me!) it pulled the curl out(left undone short it sort of looks like a holly bush! no wave, no curl, just sort of a spiky rats nest you cant brush or comb - NOT a look you want when your over 60 I can tell you!)) and can be put up (then it looks short) or let out. Most of the time its clipped back in a pony tailish way.
Life is short and shorter still if you let everyone else live yours for you! Do what you want. share t

She goes to the salon twice a week for a wash and special conditioning to keep her hair nice.[/quote]

I do think as you age you should put something on to keep your hair in shape. I always condition when I shampoo and when it towel dry I use coconut oil ( actually food grade coconut butter) a dab the size of a dime is way more than needed and run it thru my hair - it smells great and soaks into the hair shaft and makes your hair shine like a penny! I think too, if you arentgetting the right vitamins/ nutrition it shows in your hair and nails.

I personally do not agree, nor do I abide by any "rules" about who should wear what at a certain age. As you can see by my avatar, my hair is long. I wear short skirts, boots, and anything else that "almost 54 year olds" should NOT wear!! I've always been told that I march to the beat of a different drummer - and that's the way I like it.
Everyone should be free to be what they like - short hair, long hair - whatever!!!

Thank goodness we are not all "vanilla", although there is nothing wrong with vanilla - variety is a beautiful thing!

my hair is long to and I mostly wear it up I would prefer it short but very difficult to take care of as it is perfectly straight and requires a perm every 4 months to expensive plus to hard on my hair so will go long and forget the beauty shops

I am 76 and keep my hair short. much easier to care for and in lthe past 6 months I notice my natural curl is coming back. When I had first son (very difficult birth) I came out of hosp with straight hair. and as an ER and ICU nurse long hair is way too much work to keep contained. Besides, I look much better with it short. To each his own......

I am 64 and LOVE short hair BUT my second husband LOVES long hair. He's my second husband, we are both widowed. When I return to the car from a fabric shop and tell him how much I spent, he says, "You go right back in there! You didn't spend enough!" I wear my hair long!!!

but I have seen older women with long stringy, very thin hair hanging down thier back and it does look extremely unattractive. They should at least contain it so it doesn't look unkkept.

i had long hair all my life , then when i hit 40 it was a pain in the but to take care of and washing and drying it took for ever, so i went and got it cut short, and ever since then i love it , easier to take care of and i think it made me look younger, but i believe it is all in what each person wants
