I used two layers of fleece for the last blanket I made, machine stitched 4" from the edges of the two layers, cut out the corners and cut 3/4" strips around the rest of the blanket. Using a single layer of fleece should also work.

Little late to this party but...I have some fleece I'd like to use up. I've never made one of these and have never used or even touched one of these! (And I often overthink things). I'm going to knot two layers together with opposing baseball team fleece for my daughter and her SO. Do they wash up okay? I feel like I'd need to do some tying to keep the two layers together but as I said I've never done this before. Any ideas?
And... I love that Polly tutorial. Great hint with the painter's tape, too.

you can make them any size, try a lap size. All of my kids are tall so instead of the normal 2yrd I use 3. Your finighing can be blanket stitching around the edges or hem them or just use pinking or some of the other decrative scissors and they also have them in roller blades. It doesn't fray so anything would be great.

Thanks so much for your reply. I do have a scallop rotary cutter around here some place. That would be fun to use!

I like that braided look...did the knotted ones one year as gifts.....might try a few of those braided ones.....

I make a few 30x36 for baby gifts. I just serge the edge and suggest to parents to throw them in the trunk or stroller or wagon. They make a great inexpensive changing blanket to throw on the ground, or trunk, heck, even the truck bed! You never know where you might be when the need arises! They wash up nice and are lightweight. They do fuzz up your machine though.
