    i made a few prs. using the directions on you tube for fabric flip flops. they're great.

    You could coat the knots with fray-check or clear nail polish, or some such liquid, to make them resist dirt and moisture. I use clear nail polish on the soles of the moccasions I wear for sqaure dancing and they stay much cleaner and wear much longer.
