My daughter's house caught on fire the same way. Fire Dept
said the late afternoon sun heated the dead plants and the potting soil until it started smoldering, then finally started a blaze. Plant was on her front porch. Melted the siding broke two windows, no flame on inside but lots of smoke damage. She has good home homers insurance. This occured not in the summer but on day cool enough to wear a jacket. Thank goodness the garden hose was working.
