Food for the Intellect

Has anyone else ever heard of TED? It stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It's about ideas and innovation, very cool stuff.
I first heard of it a few years ago, in Madison, Wisconsin. It again came up in a book I just finished, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, about a not-very-educated boy in Malawi (Africa) who built his own windmill. The extraordinary things about this are:
a) he was just a kid
b) he did it with no adult guidance, just three books from a library that had only three shelves of books
c) he did it using whatever scraps and junk were around, including plastic shopping bags that he melted together, bicycle parts, pieces of radios, etc.
d) he used it to bring light into his house at night, and all he had were little light bulbs from cars for the light
e) he stuck to it through a famine, ridicule and witch hunts
f) he is now a student at Dartmouth in New Hampshire
But I digress. (Though I want to add that the book is awesome and I highly recommend it.) The point is, he went to a TED conference, and it reminded me of how cool TED is. So I looked it up online and thought some of you might find it interesting, too.
