I am amazed with the behavior of these little critters too!
I love to sit at my kitchen table and watch them coming and going, there is one little rascal who seems to play "King of the Mountain,"
He gets a drink and sits on the banister watching for any others and when one shows up he dives into them and chases the others away!
Here in MO the Red Throat-ed is the predominate species, and will be around here till about mid Sept.

I was filling feeder today and thought I would hold it in my hand to see if they would feed while I held it. Well, they sure did. About 6 were swooping around me and one even landed briefly on my hand. Love these little birds. Sad to see them go.

We saw hummingbirds feeding at a neighbor's feeders this past Christmas in Southern Oregon...Ashland.

I was hoping they would return next year. We would see one occasionally on flowers last year but this year we added the feeder. They do come into the porch to a pot of wishbone flowers I have as well.

I love to sit and watch the hummingbirds in the morning with my cup of coffee. I will sit outside and watch them watch me after they drink. They are so tiny and precious.
One came nose to nose with my avatar and she freaked the bird just fluttered as if to say gotcha !LOL
