Fun sewing costumes :)
We are having fun sewing costumes for plays, especially the fancy dresses from turn of the century and Victorian times. So glad we don't have to always wear them now, with all the tight waists, high collars, ruffles and lace. Pretty to dress up in, but glad I can wear comfy jeans.

I made 4-6 costume dresses for our oldest GD and put them in a pretty storage box for her birthday. I added plastic bead necklaces and plastic high heels. She played with them a lot, some days put them in a plastic bag and hauled them along to the babysitter to play dress up with other girls. Babysitter called me to say they were a big hit at her house. Best part was: I invested only in a few trimmings because the dresses were made from old bridesmaid dresses.

I've sewn dance recital costumes, play costumes, wedding gowns etc. for years and always enjoyed making them all. Hardest ones for theater were the Shakespeare costumes with heavy velvets and brocades. But so pretty. Easier to use a pattern but sometimes we make our own ideas with drawings. We also use surprising materials, like old lace curtains and tablecloths, suitcoats cut up, upholstery fabrics, whatever our imagination comes up with!
