In the time of Central Heat and Air Conditioning, we don't have any open flames for heating. I understand the problem with non fire retardent fabric for children sleepware, but at least at our house it is an unrealitic issue. No one even smokes at our house. I think each person needs to assess their own issues when it comes to making items for their children....

Love those nighties- I used to make PJs and Nighties for my two kids every year for Xmas eve when they could open one package- then they had something special to wear while they waited for Santa. I have many memories of the late night stitching I did to get it all done in time. And the year my daughter went to Germany as an exchange student, she asked me to make her her plaid nightshirt early, so she could take it with her. So they loved the tradition too.

Reminds me of my grandma.....Every year at Christmas, my grandma made me a home made flannel nightgown (with no pattern on an old treadle "singer" sewing machine). She would make this big enough around that I could curl up in a fetal position and tuck the nightgown around my feet! And, she always made me a new pair of mittens that she knitted on four double pointed needles. Oh- the wonderful memories of g.ma's. Your memory will be kept forever.

There is a process for making fabric flame RESISTANT. Check on your favorite search engine. It does need to be re=done to keep it safer.
