Growing An African Violet from A leaf?
#52
Oh, I know Quilting Here! I have a variegated leaf in a pot now with white colored variegated leaves coming out now. I can't wait until they get bigger. Maybe I'll get back into growing a bunch of violets again. I love it when all of them bloom at the same time. They are beautiful.
For some reason, the only ones I have trouble out of are the miniature ones. They don't like me! :-)

Nena don't feel bad. I know people who can kill the plastic potted plants. :-) That's what my daughter in law tells me she does.
No kidding my lucky bamboo was growing beautifully and getting so tall. She came in last July and moved them to put her small suitcase in the bathroom. Guess what, they have been turning yellow ever since. I've done everything I know to do to get them to start going back to green. I told her not to touch any more of my plants.
We had a big laugh over that one.

I can't remember what color mine are until they bloom. I need to make them this time when they bloom. Do you have any trailors Connie?
We could swap some leaves if you want?
I have raised the mini ones before. But they are the hardest for me to raise. Eventually I end up looseing them. I may try my luck again when I run up on some I like.

So you can pluck a leaf off an african violet you like in a store and go home and start your own. I did that so many times. I wasn't in a hurry and I was thrilled to see it grow frm just a leaf. Is your grandmas a doble flower or single . Is it a ruffle leaf or flat. Just trying to visulize it.Good luck!!!

My step-daughter is taking first year at university....about a 5-6 hour drive away. She was asking if she could have one of my African violets. Unbeknownst to her, I had been starting one for her, and it was ready to go. She has called me 2 or 3 times a week asking how to know if it is happy. LOL She just called again to tell me it got knocked off her desk. She wanted to know if it would survive. She put all the bits and the dirt back in the pot, so we will see.
