Question Guess who is in my yard!

It's a great blue heron standing by our pond. This heron is smaller than other heron's that have visited our pond, I wonder if it is young and/or female.

Herons visit our yard many times each summer and it isn't unusual for one to stay 10 - 20 minutes. The herons fish for koi in the pond but they are not very successful because the fish hide in rocks we have built into the pond to protect them from the herons.

There is a forest preserve, about a mile from our home where hundreds of heron nest. It's a treat to see the heron outside my kitchen window.

The pictures are about a month old, I just uploaded them to my computer, the pond is now covered in fall colors.

There go the goldfish! What a beautiful pond. I'd gladly sacrifice a few fish for such a pretty visitor.

I love your pond...I am so jealous..
Besides my family, my pets are the most important things to me. I have had birds, a dog or cats since I was about 8 years old. The cruelest thing you can do to me is take my animals away.

what a beautiful pond you have in your yard.
I live in NY and a friend had a pond full of koi, a raccoon was
doing his daily food shopping in their pond!

Say goodbye to your fish, and when they are gone, so will be the heron.

I love your yard! I live close to a small river/several places with small farm ponds and occasionally I'll spot a heron in flight or fishing. Always makes for a special day. Thanks for sharing!

We live on the edge of Puget Sound and the great blue herons frequent the beach looking for morsels! What a wonderful pond and garden you have.
