I needed a book bag and since I could not find one I like, I made myself one. While attaching the shoulder strap, my left middle finger got too close to the needle. The needle pierced my finger nail and came out through the front of my finger. By instinct I pulled and that broke the needle. I then had ripped skin and the tip of the needle inside my finger. I pulled it out and wrapped the finger with a lot of pain. I discovered that Neosporin with pain relief works. Immediately the pain was gone. Jorge said to stop sewing. I did. For 5 minutes until the bleeding stopped. I jumped back at the machine, replaced the needle and finished the bag. I have class tomorrow. How can I go on without a bag I like? It is dark purple. I hope the blood stain is not too obvious, and if it is, I am proud of it. I love my bag.

Yes your lucky my needle was stuck in my machine and I had to call 911. Not a pretty site with 8 very handsome firefighters in my home!

OWEY! That hurt just reading about it. I have never sewn through my finger and hope never to. The closest I came was hitting my finger with the clamp screw that holds the needle. I try to keep my fingers far away from that area. I think it is going to hurt for a few days. But at least you have a lovely new book bag!

Try putting some of your saliva on the spot & rub with a lint free cloth. It might take it out or at least make it not as noticeable.

Yes and it hurts!! It did not go through my nail but did go through at an angle - had to use tweezers - it broke in pieces and I never did find them all. Hope I never do it again!

Heal quickly.

Ouch!!!! I have never done that but my mom did that many years ago. I guess the trauma of seeing her do that has made me very cautious of the needle. I have come close though just nicking a finger nail a time or two. Would love to see a pic of your book bag though.

My Elna will sew through almost anything, including fingers. When I did it, the needle was embedded in the bone and I was up alone. I called to my children who were sleeping upstairs - no luck. I called to my husband in a faraway room - no luck. So I had to reach around with my right hand and undo the needle. I woke my husband up with a pair of pliers in one hand and a needle in the bone in the other.

Yes, I have done this!

Wooo, queasy feeling here! Hope you continue to feel well. Make sure all the pieces are out! That would not be good! Take care!
