Default Have you ever heard of this?

A lady in our lunch group, loves to talk about anything.[A basic know-it-all], She was tell about going on a trip and seeing all the barn quilts. The tale she told was that the family designed a quilt block for the family crest and no one else was allowed to use it. That the blocks told a family history. Has any every heard of this???

I have never heard of this. Around here I can think of a couple of places that have the same barn quilt.

Someone may actually claim that. But really, are any patterns actually new?

There are some patterns for Hawiian appliqué quilts that are exclusive to their descendants. I have not heard of a family crest for a quilt but a personal ancestral crest done in appliqué would be only relevant to that family.

Our guild had a presentation by a lady who had researched barn quilts (and I think had published a book about them). She never mentioned anything like that.

Uh, and where did they register this "crest" so that no one else could use it?
What a joke!

In the UK family coats of arms and crests are registered but not sure where in London. But all these are appliquéd not quilted and the cost of the gold thread would not go outside for display. Perhaps she was listening to a UK program on coats of arms at same time as looking at the barn quilts.
