After seeing a cute blog, I decided to applique a band of cotton fabric onto a knit t-shirt (kids outfit, made shorts to match). I used Heat & Bond on the cotton, applied it per the directions. When I started to sew, it sort of slowed down and the fabric stopped moving forward. Maybe this has to do with it being a knit on the bottom. I have stopped sewing it of course will rip that part out. I am hoping there is something else I should do so that this looks perfect. Thanks!

Try placing a stabilizer under the area where you are stitching.

heat and bond is awfully think unless you use the lite. I prefer wonder under also known as Pelion 805 or Steam a Seam 2. I have done what you are doing many times. using a stabilizer under will help also. If you are using a satin stitch, loosen it a tad. sometimes it is too tight and globs up in the same spot and wont move. If you have an open toe applique foot for your machine this will help, as it has an indent for to ride over the stitching. Take your time, go slow and you will be successful. and people will think you bought the outfits. Ask me how I know. I could have sold many, but job didnt give me time.

Is it a band on the bottom or an appliqué in the center of the shirt? if it is a band on the bottom, you can maybe back it with cotton fabric on the back and do a false hem? If you are trying to do a zig zag stitch on the appliqué edge in the center of the shirt, it will be difficult if you used regular heat and bond. You might be able to do a buttonhole stitch around the edge because most of that is on the background fabric. If you use a stabilizer on the back of the shirt, make sure it is soft(not scratchy)because kids hate that. If worse comes to worse, you can always hand embroider a pretty edge.

did you use heat N bond ---or heat N bond lite?
the regular is very heavy and not made for sewing----the lite is made to be stitched down- makes a big difference---the other stuff is made more for wallhangings items that will not be washed-
a stablizer inside the garment can help keep things from stretching or puckering- you can get tear aways or water soluble stablizers that work real well- after making sure you have the right fusable product.
