Ouch. I can't think what you could put under that the cutter would not damamge except a mat. Do you have a cutting board? Not sure it would work but I guess you could try if the pieces are small enough. If not Wal-Mart for a new board. Sorry I wasn't more help.

........ not unless you want to ruin both your rotary cutter and whatever you are cutting on.

rotary cutting mats - absolutely essential to use with a rotary cutter and the templates

There are many brands available

Where are you from??

If you don't have the rotary cutting mats, you can still use the templates by drawing around them and cutting the fabric out with scissors.

I have used the disposable cutting boards, the thin plastic sheet like ones. They didn't seem to dull my blades :D:D:D

I would think that as a temporary measure you could just use a kitchen type cutting board. I wouldn't try to do that for an extended period though.

if you do not have the proper tools to use a rotory cutter- you really should not- they are quite dangerous when used in ways they were not designed for-

to use templates without a rotory cutter/cutting mat-simply trace the template on the fabric and cut out with scissors- this is how we always did it before the rotory cutters hit the scene- they have not been around all that long.
