Default how to remove odor from jeans?

hello all.. I recently purchased a pair of black jeans from a major retailer (one found all over the continent)... not expensive... and even after washing, they have a fairly strong and unpleasant odor in them... I'm thinking it is the dye? Has anyone noticed this? Does anyone know how to remove the odor? Sigh... I'd love to wear these jeans, but they stink! HELP?????

My sister who has trouble with odors suggests using baking soda with laundry detergent.

I use OdaBan when I wash clothes if I need it. Kills germs and orders.

I use this with soap in the soap dispenser:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has worked on everything I've tried it on so far. This is a ground-up mineral that absorbs odors. It rinses away with the wash water; does not clog up the machine.

What about Borax? I think I'd be afraid to wear them against my legs

"Rivers" here recently recalled a range of black denim which had a problem with one of the chemicals in the dye http://www.rivers.com.au/productsafetyrecall.pdf
I would think about returning them or at least ringing the company and see if anyone else had the problem. Chemicals can be neutralised to an extent by soaking in milk and cold water, then rinsing in cold and then a hot wash.

I had some curtains in my bedroom and put them in the dryer to get the dust out. Must have had some kind of petroleum product in them. Right after that I put my quilt in to dry. OMGosh it stunk. I rewashed a couple of times. Nothing worked. Yesterday I put baking soda and vinegar in the detergent cup and some of it was gone. Did it a second time and I can now use my old first quilt.
