We always put the tree in front of a window. Most people do. Windows usually have curtains. Curtains have curtain rods. When the children were little, there was always a wire from the tree to the curtain rod. Well, there was one after we found out that it was needed, LOL.

When my boys were young, the bottom layer of ornaments were designated 'cat friendly'--as in we didn't mind if they got knocked off and played with. When we went to an artificial tree, Mortimer and Flash stopped trying to climb it but Chester, my avatar still found a spot to snooze and spy.

What a beautiful orange tabby!

Great cat! Mr. Peach is orange too but he just likes to sleep under the tree. When he was a kitten the ornaments were at risk of being batted across the room but at 11 he has given that part up. Merry Christmas and I hope you still have a standing tree.

We have a hook in the ceiling and use clear fishing line to attach. Also, we do not put ornaments on the bottom branches (other than a couple fabric kitty toys). Years ago, my cousin and I spent HOURS putting tinsel on our huge tree strand by strand. In the middle of the night we heard the tree topple - THE CAT! I have never put tinsel on a tree since and have made our trees as kitty-proof as possible. And, I also used the playpen trick, but it was more to keep the little babies out of the tree and the packages!

My last cat climbed the tree to sit in the branches (an artificial tree), but she never bothered the ornaments. I think she must have went up the trunk area. Luckily, she was a small cat. Here's a pic of Sugar helping before the decorations went on.

Irishrose- What a cutie pie!!! Mookie is enthralled by the tree. It's he and Baby's first Christmas.
I have some crystal icicles that I think are going to have to stay put away this year haha!
It's okay- he and his sister bring us tons of joy!
